Pound 4 Pound

Back for Seconds - Posted on 5/19/2001

Literally "Back For Seconds" Pound 4 Pound is back with their sophomore album. Though I didn’t get their first album I did have high hopes for them this time out. With a killer song getting airplay on FM 100 (Nobody Knows) I was sure that this CD would be a winner. Sad to say I was a little let down after I purchased this CD. The one thing that really hurts this CD is something that is currently hurting all Hawaiian music right now, lack of originality. Half the tracks on this CD are remakes.

Possibly the best song on the album would have to be Nobody Knows written by Joseph Richards, which was made popular by Babyface (Nobody Knows it But Me). The song is good, it’s been playing on FM 100 for the past month, but Babyface made it popular first. Then you go to a song like Kung Fu Fighting. I don’t think this song was ever supposed to be remade—local style. I don’t know it just doesn’t mesh right. Then there’s If Tomorrow Never Comes, which is half way decent, but again, Garth Brooks did that one first. Probably the only saving grace for the CD is the fact that a lot of other artists lend their creative talents to some of the songs like Kelly Boy Delima. If I were you, I’d save my money for something else and just download Nobody Knows.
