DIRECTOR'S REPORT
VISIONS AND RESOLUTIONS - NEW YEAR'S IS HERE!!
By the time you receive this, it will be about time to enjoy family time around the tree unwrapping gifts and looking forward
to 2003. Good ole New Year's -- that time of year when we look ahead to see new things we want to do or things we want
to do differently. Almost all of us make pledges to do things better or differently than last year. For a lot of us, we pledge
to lose weight or start exercising, or perhaps to stop procrastinating or something else we have concluded was perhaps a
habit that needs to be changed. My vision for the Atlanta Chapter in 2003 is to continue to build on those trends we saw
changed in 2002, and to be creative in making new opportunities for riding and having fun.
How about your resolutions? Did they include any "Harley" related items? Like maybe to attend just a few more meetings
or a couple of more rides than last year? What about giving some time to the chapter by volunteering? We have a lot going
on - set up and clean up for meetings, helping out on Saturdays by cooking on the grill and selling raffle tickets, helping
prepare to mail the HOGWASH, or getting involved with the S.H.A.R.E. House activities; we have numerous other events
too that we will need folks to help with.
One new thing we will have this year in the chapter is the way we bring new members into the chapter. A new chapter
position has been created, the Membership Officer/New Member Coordinator. This person's job will be to staff a group of
volunteers who will "sponsor" a new member by hosting them, introducing them to the chapter and spending one-on-one
time with them at their first meeting. Does this sound like something you would be willing to help with?
Any chapter which is strong and viable is one where you will witness a lot of involvement by many different members.
Otherwise, the few trying to carry the many result in feeling burned out, not only from a creativity standpoint but also from
an energy level standpoint. The old "80/20 rule" unfortunately applies to most organizations including our chapter, but we
can easily change that; each one of us, by volunteering for just one or two things a year, could make a tremendous
difference.
When you show up for your next ride or activity with the chapter, please take a moment to consider the effort it took to put
on that ride or activity. Then perhaps think about giving just a bit of your time to help the chapter maintain "fresh legs" as it
moves forward throughout the year. Any successful achievements of those resolutions require a constant level of energy to
go with a clear vision of where you are headed.
Ride Safe, Ride Often

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT
A NEW YEAR, 2003
Do you have your hotel reservations for the 100th Anniversary Party in Milwaukee? This is going to be a great party, and I
hope you are planning to be a part of it as a Harley-Davidson enthusiast. This will also be the 20th Anniversary of the Harley
Owners Group so start making your plans now!
Let me thank every member for your support of the Atlanta Chapter in 2002 and your continued support in 2003. We are
well underway with over 350 members renewing to date. I think we have a great group of Officers lined up again this year,
some new ones and some old familiar ones. All the officers need your continued support. We all spend a lot of time trying
to figure out what we think will interest you and get your participation in meeting and rides. If you have anything in mind
that might get you on a ride or other chapter activity, please let us know. We are putting together the ride calendar with
some of the old favorites, and would love to include your new ride suggestions.
Hope to see you soon at an Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. activity.

I want to thank everyone for attending the rally in 2002. Now is the time to start planning for the 2003 rally, which will be
in Savannah. The committee is working on securing the host hotel and as soon as I get the information, I will pass it onto
the chapter. In the upcoming months, updates will be in the newsletter, so be planning on another great State Rally.

LADIES OF HARLEY'S REPORT
Happy New Year!! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and are settling in to the New Year. We have many
things planned for our Chapter in 2003 so be sure you get involved!
A sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who generously donated gifts so that members of the Share House could
have a happy holiday. All of our Angels were adopted within days, and many ended up getting everything on their list. The
Toy Ride for Share House was a success, even if a bit chilly. The children got so excited seeing all those bikes roar up to
them, and then to have Santa among the bunch, they were just elated. Thanks to everyone who participated - you are a
great bunch of folks - and thanks to the Douglas County Sheriff's Department for that fine escort!
Well, it is official… the bus trip to Biloxi in January has been canceled for lack of participation. However, since quite a few
of you expressed in interested in going (obviously just not on a bus), the trip has been rescheduled for June 27-29, 2003.
Watch for more details in the April Hog Wash.
Since the Sweetheart Ride to Dave & Buster's last year was such a success, we are going to do it again this year. Please
join us for a round about ride to the Dave & Buster's in Marietta on February 8. We will meet at 11:30 a.m. and leave at
Noon, but pay attention to the Hotline, cause if it's too cold, we'll travel by cage.
I have scheduled a trip to Chattanooga for March 29 and 30. As it stands right now, we will leave the dealership on
Saturday morning around 9:00 a.m., which should put us into Chattanooga by Noon. I have booked a block of rooms at the
Chattanooga Choo-Choo in Downtown Chattanooga. Please call them directly at (800) 872-2529 to make your room
reservation - be sure to ask for the block of rooms held for Atlanta Harley. They have given us a reduced rate for the night
of $79 plus tax. I am working on getting us on the River Boat Dinner Cruise for Saturday evening. More details will be in
the February Hogwash.
Have fun, be safe and enjoy the ride!

MEET TERRI VARNUM - NEW ACTIVITIES OFFICER
My name is Terri Varnum, and I am a native of Powder Springs, Georgia. I am a single mother of two boys, Brian 13 and
Brad 10, and a Computer Programmer/Analyst for Wellstar Health System. Until April 2001, I had never been on a
motorcycle in my life. After taking several trips as a passenger, I decided this was definitely something that I wanted to do
on my own. In September 2001, I took the Rider's Edge class, and purchased my Fat Boy in November. In my first year of
riding, I logged over 12,000 miles by traveling to a lot of the Southern States and out West. To me there is nothing more
relaxing than getting on my bike and riding - it is my form of mental therapy. I am real excited about being the Activities
Director for our Chapter, and look forward to meeting more and more members. As Activities Director, I already have
many ideas in the works for 2003 such as the Charleston trip in April and the Raffle in May. Keep your eye on the Hog
Wash for upcoming events! Also, if you have thoughts or suggestions for activities that our Chapter might be interested in,
please feel free to contact me at 770 943-3129 or email me at terrin2hd@aol.com.

case of trouble.

MEET TOM ARNOLD - NEW MEMBERSHIP OFFICER
Hi, I am Tom Arnold, 45 years old and single. I grew up in a military family in Georgia, Tennessee, and California. In 1974
I returned to Georgia and have lived in the Powder Springs area ever since. For the past 23 years I have worked for the
Cobb County Police Department, and am currently assigned as the SWAT Team Commander and Lieutenant in the Special
Operations Unit, supervising the Tactical Unit, DUI Task Force and K-9 Unit.
I first began riding a motorcycle in July 2000. After taking riding lessons, I purchased
a 2000 Fat Boy and completed the Harley-Davidson Basic Police Motorcycle Officers Course. There are currently 37,000
miles on my Fat Boy. So far, I have ridden to Sturgis, Daytona Bike Week and Biketoberfest, and most of the Southern
States. During the summer of 2002, I rode through Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, The Flaming Gorge, Beartooth Pass and
several other areas in the Western States.

DEALER LIAISON'S REPORT
This is the first issue of the New Year, a real big one for Harley-Davidson. I find it hard to comprehend the year has passed.
I started working at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta in November of 2001. My small part at the shop, walking new buyers
around their bikes and showing them where all the buttons are located, has turned out to be a lot more fun than I could
imagine. Of all the bikes I have delivered, I have not had one unhappy customer. Besides my personal charm, I think part of
that is they are getting a new Harley.
I get to meet all the new riders, if they buy on a Saturday, so I have made quite a few new friends. In my advanced years I
find it harder to remember names, so if I do not recognize you when you come in the shop, please say hello if you see me.
An added benefit to this job is that I have gotten to know the people that run Harley-Davidson of Atlanta. I think this has
been the most rewarding aspect. The employees, including management, sales, service, motor clothes, and parts are a great
group of people. It seems their common goal is customer enjoyment of their Harley. As members of the HOG Chapter, let
them know how much their efforts are appreciated by telling them how much you enjoy to ride, and tell them they are doing
a good job.
Another way we can show our appreciation is to volunteer to help with the chapter. You do not have to commit a lot of
time, just ask someone if you can help at the next meeting, or drop by the shop on a Saturday and stand around talking to
fellow riders. While you are doing that you can offer them a chance too win the 2003 Heritage Softail Classic. An hour or
two helping with any project will always be appreciated.
So let's see if we can slow down 2003 a little, call up some good riding weather, and all keep the rubber side down.

Dealer Liaison, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.

MEET KATHRYN HAYS - NEW EDITOR
Hello, my name is Kathryn Hays and I am 22 years old. I grew up in Cobb County but am currently residing in Braswell
Mountain. I am a single mother to a beautiful, yet very prissy three-year old daughter, Hope. I graduated from Sprayberry
High School and attended Kennesaw State University. I am proud to say that I have been employed by Harley-Davidson of
Atlanta, Inc. since November 2001. I bought my first bike, a 2001 Dyna Wide Glide from Harley-Davidson of Atlanta in
October 2001. In May 2002, I traded for what I currently own, an 883R. This past August I participated in the Rider's
Edge class and I found myself a new hobby. I am still green at the "riding thing" and I am not as comfortable as I would like
to be, just yet. I know that "practice and experience makes perfect" so, when I am ready to venture out, I will have a great
group of people to ride with. I feel very privileged to have this opportunity to work along side such intelligent, wonderful
and fun loving individuals. I look forward to seeing each one of you at upcoming events and meetings.
