Fireworks are often difficult
subjects to capture. You normally have no prior knowledge of
the script, and with a conventional camera have to take a
series of time exposures on the order of 10 seconds each,
hoping to capture suitable images. These images were
captured with a digital camcorder, the first 2 in photo
mode, and the last in video mode. The camcorder offers a lot
more flexibility, more latitude to experiment without
wasting film, and immediate satisfaction in viewing the
images you capture. On the other hand, each frame consists
of 720 x 480 pixels of data, so the ability to enlarge these
images beyond 6" x 4" is very limited. When shopping for a
camera, or processing system, keep in mind what you want to
do with the images. For viewing on a computer monitor or TV,
or printing as 6" x 4" photos, these digital images are more
than adequate. For enlargements, they are less well
suited.
