This was a thread on Creationism in public schools. It is Phil's final showdown with billytea
[ Philip II ] - 10:19pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#1195 of 1227)
"Creationism Must be Taught in our Schools!"
But of course! The inexorable logic of theists smashes the feeble oppositions posed by the twisted minds of atheists.
[ billytea ] - 10:28pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#1196 of 1227)
"But of course! The inexorable logic of theists smashes the feeble oppositions posed by the twisted minds of atheists."
And someday, you may even convince someone impartial of that.
[ Philip II ] - 10:33pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#1198 of 1227)
Even more mockery set forth in place of a sound argument? How typical.
[ billytea ] - 10:39pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#1200 of 1227)
Much in all as I applaud your determination to not only point out errors in logic and persuasion, but give us excellent practical demonstrations thereto, I still feel constrained to
wonder if you actually have a point, or you just woke up this morning feeling a bit light on for self-esteem.
(Post 1200, how cool.)
[ Philip II ] - 10:42pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#1201 of 1227)
Morning? Is that the depths to which your foolish beliefs have brought you to? Get some sense into your head. It's night time out.
[ billytea ] - 11:29pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#1203 of 1227)
Yes folks, it's morning in America.
It's true, Phil, me ol' green baize card table. The depravity to which my beliefs have brought me are clearly shown in that I'm finding you hysterically funny.
But then, I always did enjoy wind-up toys.
Your turn. Surprise me.J
[ Philip II ] - 11:31pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#1204 of 1227)
Morning in America? You are crazy, you know that? I've met some loony types, but never an atheist so disconnected from reality that he insists night is day and day is night. How
absurd.
And I don't need any of your little smiley faces, thank you very much.
[ billytea ] - 11:57pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#1205 of 1227)
I live in Australia, me ol' three-cornered feathered hat. 'Tis by the light of the all-powerful Sun God that I be typin' this.
"And I don't need any of your little smiley faces, thank you very much."
Now Phil, you know you'll only hurt yourself by refusing. You need something to turn that frown upside down. Try a few - you know you want to.
[large amounts of smiley faces that I'm too lazy to reproduce]
[ Brett in NYC ] - 11:58pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#1206 of 1227)
Okay, is someone playing a Jefferson Airplane album or something? I gotta stop pickin' my own mushrooms.
[ Philip II ] - 12:01am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#1207 of 1227)
Australia? It's nighttime there, too. When it's night in one place, it's night everywhere. Anybody home?
[ billytea ] - 12:14am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#1208 of 1227)
Oh, Phil, you're making it hard to breathe. This is too beautiful.
[ Philip II ] - 12:16am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#1209 of 1227)
Why are you mocking me? Nothing is funny! It's nighttime out. How is that humorous?
[ billytea ] - 12:22am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#1210 of 1227)
Phil, I want you to perform a little experiment for me. Get up from your computer. Walk over to your window. Open it. Gaze up at the sky. Now shout, "I'm mad as Hell, and I'm not
going to take it anymore!!"
Oh wait, wrong movie. Ok, so here's the deal Phil. Earth big round ball. Sun shine from long way away. When Sun shine on bit with Australia, bit with America point away from big Sun.
Australia nice, sunny day. US plunged into darkness. They not the only one. Earth spin, all change. Rinse and repeat.
"Why are you mocking me? Nothing is funny!"
Oh Gawd, Phil, if I really have to explain that...
[ Philip II ] - 12:24am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#1211 of 1227)
Don't give that long refuted rubbish. I want a real argument, none of your asinine shenanigans.
[ billytea ] - 12:38am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#1214 of 1227)
Yeah, and I want to be taller, but we don't always get what we want.
Can I just check here, do you seriously not realise it's daytime in Australia at the moment?
[ Philip II ] - 12:40am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#1216 of 1227)
Of course it isn't daytime. You don't really think I was kidding, do you? Because I don't kid, Billy. Not in matters such as these.
[ billytea ] - 12:45am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#1220 of 1227)
So to double check, despite that fact that I'm actually in Australia, and you're not, you think you know better than me whether it's daylight. Is that correct?
Here is another thread in which Phil almost reaches the end of the line. Phil is indignant that someone has not responded to his posts.
[ Philip II ] - 10:52pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#94 of 215)
I see the heathens are reluctant to respond. A pity.
[ billytea ] - 11:26pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#95 of 215)
Yeah, and you make it such an attractive option too. Right up there with chewing tin foil.
[ Philip II ] - 11:28pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#96 of 215)
Are you trying to insinuate something, there, billytea
? [ billytea ] - 11:51pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#98 of 215)
Look, if I want to chew tin foil in my spare time, I don't see who you are to criticise. After all, I don't object to you walking around naked with your hair on fire, do I?
[ Philip II ] - 11:54pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#101 of 215)
I never walk around naked with my hair on fire, thank you very much. Feel free to chew your tin foil, though. It's your business. (And not too suprising for an atheist.)
[ KAM1953F ] - 11:57pm Jun 12, 2000 EST (#102 of 215)
Phillip, I take it you don't think much of atheists. Well, as one theist to another, I would like to suggest you open an ear to the atheists that frequent these boards. They can teach
you more than you've already forgotten.
[ Philip II ] - 12:02am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#103 of 215)
Learn? From atheists? You've got to be kidding. I don't claim to know it all, but I don't see anything good coming from that crazy bunch.
[ billytea ] - 12:13am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#104 of 215)
I'm trying to teach him to play the zither. It's not easy, either; he keeps trying to fit the wide end in his mouth.
I don't know what he could learn from this crazy bunch either. But I think he's doing ok in the role of zany, bumbling sidekick so far.
[ Philip II ] - 12:15am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#105 of 215)
You're the zany bumbling one. You're the one who insists that it is daytime when any moron can see that it isn't. You're the one who likes to drink contaminated tap water. And I'm the
loony one.
What more proof is there, that all athiests are completely illogical and make a travesty of the name they expropriated for their pseudo philosophy, rationalism.
[ billytea ] - 12:18am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#106 of 215) "You're the zany bumbling one. You're the one who insists that it is daytime when any
moron can see that it isn't. You're the one who likes to drink contaminated tap water. And I'm the loony one."
C'mon Brett, admit it. Phil's posts are funnier than mine.
Best of all, he's inexpensive to run.
[ Philip II ] - 12:19am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#107 of 215)
Neither one of us is funny. Everything I say is with complete solemnity. You may be a smart ass, but you certainly aren't funny, either.
[ KAM1953F ] - 12:26am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#108 of 215)
Phillip, William is correct to insist that day is night. It's lunchtime where he is.
[ Philip II ] - 12:30am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#109 of 215)
Oh, I see. You're in on it too, are you? Are you really a theist, or are you just saying that? Your illogical posts confound me.
[ billytea ] - 12:36am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#110 of 215)
"Everything I say is with complete solemnity."
But of course, When-I-Get-That-Phil-ing. It wouldn't be nearly as entertaining otherwise.
[ Philip II ] - 12:38am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#111 of 215)
Entertaining? I must say that my threshold of tolerance is nearing. I don't think I can stand for too much more "debate" tonight.
[ KAM1953F ] - 12:41am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#112 of 215)
"In on it"?
Phillip, William lives in Australia, where it is daylight.
And I am, indeed, a theist. I am an observant Roman Catholic.
I am happy to engage in debate with respectful people, and if you feel you can stand no more of your own brand of "debate" tonight, I have to commisserate with you.
[ Istari ] - 12:42am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#113 of 215)
PhillipII, here is a morality puzzle for you. I would like to see how you rank the individuals. (Accept it at face value, assume nothing can be changed). And btw, give a reason for
each assignment. Thanks.
A man (M) and a lady (L) who are very much in love and devoted to one another, are separated by a river with no way of getting across to the other side. On L's side of the river,
there is a boatman (B) who is able to take her over to the other side of the river but refuses to do so unless she pays him $20, twice his normal fare. L has no money. Another man (S)
then tells L that he will giver her $20 if she sleeps with him. L agrees to do so and on receiving the $20, pays B who takes her over to the other side of the river. She is reunited
with M and they are very happy together. However, a friend of M (F) finds out what L did with S and immediately tells M. On learning the news, M finds L and ends things with her,
stating that he wants nothing more to do with her. Your task is to rank these five people, M, L, B, S, and F, from best person to worst person.
[ Philip II ] - 12:46am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#114 of 215)
From what it sounds like to me, they're all going to hell, Istari. With that in mind, ranking them is meaningless. They all share the same fate.
KAM - I don't believe a word of Billy's rubbish. I'm suprised you're taken in by it. And it's everyone else I have a problem with, not me.
[ KAM1953F ] - 12:49am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#115 of 215)
Phillip, I'm not "taken in." I know billytea well enough to know when he is being serious and when he's being facetious. You might do well to spend a bit of time studying the
participants here so you'll know the difference, too.
[ billytea ] - 12:50am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#116 of 215)
Oh, Istari that exchange was truly hysterical.
(PS: Have you read much of Paul Zindel? I liked his 'draw a path' exercise too.)
[Surely you are joking] - 12:54am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#117 of 215)
"I know billytea well enough to know when he is being serious and when he's being facetious."
Yes, he is quite obviously being facetious about the whole night/day thing. I mean, come on, daytime? Really, Billy, you're going to have to try better than that.
[ Philip II ] - 12:56am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#118 of 215)
KAM, matters of personality are one thing. But to say that daytime is nightime is crossing the line into absurdity.
[ billytea ] - 12:56am Jun 13, 2000 EST (#119 of 215) "I mean, come on, daytime? Really, Billy, you're going to have to try better than
that."
(Smile) Jared, I'm beginning to think the guy is serious. In which case, I don't feel right funnin' with him any more.
But I have to admit, it was pretty enjoyable while it lasted.
And thus ends the saga of Phil. He has sinced vanished without a trace. Though it was rumored he moved to smite a few stray starsiege clans. And sadly, his old domain is gone
forever.
