CROSBY,PEVAR AND RAYMOND - BEN & JERRY'S ONE WORLD ONE HEART FESTIVAL 06/23/01 A steady drizzle when CPR started. they opened with "Eight Miles High," pretty much the same as other live versions I've heard. CPR immediately hit its stride next with "Map To Buried Treasures." Those harmonies are great. "Morrison" was next, as was the heavy rain. Good job next on "Gone Forever," which blended without a pause into "Long Time Gone." Lots of old rockers to reminisce about that one. Then, David crosby said there were enough "demented people who like my first album" to appreciate "Tampalis High," and of course, they all did. There seems to be some momentum building for "Katy Did" as a pop hit, judging from the sticker on "Gravity" and the other efforts to get that on the charts. It has all of the elements. Before launching into it, David crosby suggested that fans "call your radio station and request this one, then call again using a different voice and request it again." Peev nailed the guitar solo again, despite losing his pick down the stretch. James' mouth harp wasn't loud enough on "Jerusalem". Good intro to the song by David crosby, talking about the Jerusalem Syndrome. They closed with "Deja Vu," which was really, REALLY "on" this time. The keyboard and guitar solos have, of course, never been played the same way twice, and Peev really took the crowd away with his solo. No encore because of the venue and the tight scheduling, unfortunately. Those who came because of Crosby's name recognition left with an appreciation for what CPR has become. And a big pat on the back to the Ben & Jerry's folks, who, despite all of their "political correctness," really do try to make people be more socially responsible. Having David perform in a setting such as that just kind of made sense. So, we are off through more rain for the indoor concert in Northampton on Sunday, more convinced than ever that this band is truly something special. Stay tuned for photos from Ben/Jerry's when I can get them to SQB for posting

YOUNG, NEIL - ARCHIVES BE DAMNED 2000 (5CDS)Archives Be Damned 2000 Archives Be Damned (ABD) 2000 is a compilation of songs from throughout Neil Young's career that have never been on albums and are not available today. It is an update of the original ABD with some songs removed because they are now on albums and dozens added. It is re-mastered re-sequenced, and includes a couple of tunes I had never heard before. The set is comprised of 5 cd's. These eighty two songs were compiled to give Neil Young fans an insight into the artists incredible unreleased catalog.rchives Be Damned (ABD) 2000 is a compilation of songs from throughout Neil Young's career that have never been on albums and are not available today. It is an update of the original ABD with some songs removed because they are now on albums and dozens added. It is re-mastered re-sequenced, and includes a couple of tunes I had never heard before embarking on this project. The set is comprised of 5 cd's. Right now, I'm planning on a strictly cdr distribution, though analog and/or mini-disc may be added later. These eighty two songs were compiled to give Neil Young fans an insight into the artists incredible unreleased catalog. Released or unreleased, that is the question. The answers are not as simple as they would seem. I have included in here a few songs that have actually been sold in stores at one time or another. But none that have been released on albums, except for one song that was released on another artists box set. I didnt include a couple of recently released singles, Dont Spook The Horse and Interstate. Im pretty sure they are still available. In any case, Interstate was actually on the Broken Arrow album on the vinyl release. Disc One: 1.     Born To Run: Neil. The Horse. Feedback. 2.     Forever Young: Neils performance with The Grateful Dead at the Bill Graham tribute. 3.     Bad Fog Of Loneliness: An outtake from the original Tonights The Night acetate. This tune was also played several times in 1970 and in 1989 with The Restless. 4.     It Might Have Been: There are several very nice performances of this tune with the Harvesters in 84. This performance is from 1970 with the Danny Whitten Crazy Horse, featuring Jack Nitzsche on electric piano. The tune was also a favorite from the Squires days. Writer: unknown.  5.     Everybodys Alone: KQED studios performance.  6.     War Song: An out-of-print single billed as Neil Young/Graham Nash. 7.     Johnny: A studio-recorded tune heavily laden with synthesizers and a drum machine. It was played over the PA after several Shocking Pinks shows. 8.     Goodbye Dick: This would have been great on the soundtrack to the movie Dick. Sorry the sound quality is so poor; I couldnt find anything better. 9.     Pushed It Over The End: Another song about Patty Hearst? Neil introduces this song during the Bottom Line performance as Citizen Kane Junior Blues. 10.  Everything Is Broken: Another Dylan cover. This time with Tom Petty and Sammy Hagar to kick off Bridge 89. 11.  Ordinary People: a fan favorite, though only performed a couple of dozen times. 12.  Farmers Song: The latest in a series of versions that date back to Farm Aid 86. 13.  Berlin: A one-off performance with The Trans Band. 14.  Nothing Is Perfect: a song that was debuted at Live Aid. 15.  Come Along And Say You Will: Played quite a few times with the Stray Gators during the 73 tour. Sometimes called Lonely Weekend. Disc Two: 1.     If You Got Love: a live version of the tune listed on everyones vinyl cover sleave for Trans but not on the album. 2.     Sweet Joni: a one-time performance. 3.     There Goes My Babe: A solo acoustic demo recorded in the Buffalo Springfield era. 4.     Dance, Dance, Dance: often performed 70 to 99 but never released. Crazy Horse (minus Neil) did release their own version on their self-titled album. 5.     Soul Of A Woman: Neil performed this one over 150 times, all in the 80s with the Trans band, the International Harvesters, and the Bluenotes. There are some excellent versions of all of those. Heres a solo version from the Shocking Pinks tour that Im kind of partial to. 6.     Your Love: Somewhere between the Shocking Pinks and the International Harvesters, Neil had a go with the Horse. They played a few gigs in Santa Cruz at the Catalyst Club where the Ducks played. There were several new tunes introduced, some of which eventually showed up on Landing On Water. Heres another. 7.     Do You Wanna Dance?: Fun with the Pinks. This is Vito Toledo, signing off. 8.     Hello Lonely Woman: a song dating way back to the Squires days, revived during the Bluenotes tour. 9.     Lady Wingshot: Originally performed with the Gone With The Wind Orchestra in 77; this is from a much later performance. The show is the one in Eureka, California right after Neil lost his dog Elvis. 10.  Fool For Your Love: Bluenotes version of the blues. 11.  Aurora: along with The Sultan, the earliest recording in this collection.  12.  Live To Ride: Rocker performed exclusively in 1993 with Booker T. and the MGs. 13.  Big Room: Bluenotes! 14.  So Tired: Another one from the early 84 Crazy Horze Catalyst shows. 15.  Grey Riders: Think the International Harvesters couldnt rock? Try this tune out. This was a show closer during the late summer 85 tour. 16.  Rock, Rock, Rock: A mid-80s minor anthem about, ahem, Rock. More from the early 84 experiments with Crazy Horse. 17.  Bright Sunny Day: This was almost left off because the recording is so poor. You get some idea of what the tune must have sounded like though, I think. 18.  Leavin The Top Forty Behind: Happy birthday. If the melody sounds familiar, compare with The Emperor Of Wyoming on the first solo record. I Aint Got The Blues: demo at Electra records by a very young, very nervous Neil Disc Three: 1.     Love Hotel: Performed only once in front of an audience, this is it. Not the best recording, but a nice little ditty. 2.     Kansas: This song dates back to the mid-1970s. It was never played live until 1999. Neil referred to it once early in the 99 tour while looking up something else in his lyrics book he carried. Someone asked him to play Kansas and he performed it a few times later in the tour. 3.     Homefires: Another tune dating from the mid 70s, heres a performance from the 92 solo tour. Neil said in 1997 that this song doesnt apply anymore. 4.     Love Art Blues: CSN provide some nice harmonies for this tune Neil wrote about being torn between his music life and his personal life. 5.     Separate Ways: Yet another tune from the mid 70s, this one not heard by the public until the 93 tour with Booker T. and the MGs. Pretty sad song really, kind of a companion tune to Already One in my mind. 6.     Crime Of The Heart: Listen for the reference to the Cindy Lauper song, Girls Just Want To Have Fun. One of the songs that would make a live Bluenotes record special. 7.     Bad News: This song really captures what the energy and soul of the Bluenotes. If youve seen the This Notes For You video, a snippet of this song is in it. 8.     Stranger In Paradise: A cover of a classic show tune, played at a Bridge School Benefit. 9.     Run Around Babe: Early Neil. 10.  Find Another Shoulder: Early Neil, but played by the Bluenotes in 88. I think this one dates back to the Squires days. 11.  Your Love Again: One of the many tunes recorded for the Old Ways album. This one didnt quite make it out to the public, at least not to your major record stores. 12.  Guilty Train: Not really a complete song, just a snippet that was played at the end of Old Laughing Lady during the 76 tour and on some later tours as well. 13.  Dog House: A novelty tune. Kinda humorous. You be the judge. 14.  Windward Passage: Instrumental tune played with the Ducks in 77. 15.  No One Seems To Know: Still another mid-70s tune, played live in 76. This one is from early 83 though. 16.  Extra Extra: One of the better tunes from the Electra demos. 17.  Give Me Strength: Another one from the mid-70s, this one from a performance in 76. 18.  Walking After Midnight: Played only once, I think. One of the many Bluenotes tunes found in this collection. In fact, if you took all the Bluenotes tunes contained herein and compiled them together, you would have one heck of an album.  1.     Raining In Paradise: Positive uplifting theme; finding the rainbow in the  rain after chasing the sun half way around the world. This outtake has been circulating for years. 2.     Amber Jean: Lets see, you have My Boy about Zeke, Transformer Man about Ben; heres one for Amber Jean. 3.     Hawaiian Sunrise: Catchy little CSNY tune from the 74 tour. 4.     One More Sign: Early Studio Demo. 5.     Winter Winds/Turbine: The Hawks And Doves band played once. They included a few previously released tunes, some songs from the upcoming album and this song which was never played again or released. 6.     Hillbilly Band: Heres one that captures the spirit and fun of attending a live performance by the International Harvesters. 7.     Modern World: Introduced with this performance. This tune was played a few times during the .O.R.D.E. tour of 1997 but not since. 8.     Road Of Plenty: An early version of Eldorado; the first half of this has completely different lyrics than the song that was eventually released. 9.     Beautiful Bluebird: Another outtake from the Old Ways sessions, nice country tune. 10.  High Heels: Neil attended a mini-reunion and played some tunes with his old Squire buddies in 1987. He started remembering some of the tunes they used to play and put some of them in setlists with the Bluenotes later that year. This is one of them. 11.  I Shall Be Released: Dylan cover played at the finale of night one of Bridge 99. Nice duet with Eddie Vedder. 12.  Thats All Right: Heres one that the King recorded a couple of years ago in 1955... 13.  Sultan: Along with Aurora, the earliest track in this set. Seventeen year old Neil Young doing an instrumental with his band The Squires. 14.  The Rent Is Always Due: another demo from the Electra sessions. 15.  Hitchhiker: One of the more autobiographical of Neils songs. Chronicles some of Neils experiences with pharmaceuticals. 16.  Time Off For Good Behavior: More autobiography; Neils brother Bob goes to jail...Disc Five: 1.     Sixty To Zero: All 19 minutes of it; this is the complete song. Its amazing Neil had this one memorized. No wonder he shortened it into Crime In The City. There are some pretty interesting verses here though. I feel bad for the guy who now has no ears..... 2.     Box Car: Train song original with the Restless. 3.     Traces: From the original Tonights The Night acetate. This one was also played during the 1974 CSNY tour.  4.     Sad Movies: Picture show tune. A favorite, played early in 76. 5.     Im Goin: A studio version of this was released on the b side of the Ten Men Working single. Its rare enough that it was included here. 6.     I Wonder Why: This one has never been played live. A very private song about the challenges of raising a handicapped child. 7.     Dont Pity Me, Babe: Early demo. 8.     Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay: Written by Otis Redding and Steve Cropper (who plays guitar on the original and here), this song was released on Booker T. & The MGs boxed set, but isnt in Neils catalog yet. 9.     Evening Coconut: A bright moment from the Stills/Young tour of 76 before Neil quit the tour....10.  Fingers: Throwaway/novelty tune; kind of entertaining and humorous though. 11.  I Wonder: Lets say you are one of Rassy Youngs friends in 1964. You listen to her on the phone talking about her son Neil and his musical combo, the Squires. And she plays a tape of one of their songs on the phone. This is what it would sound like. Recently uncovered from a basement, Im expecting a clean version of this in the box set. 12.  Mediterranean: Stills was in the studio with Neil when he recorded this extremely rare solo coustic tune. 13.  Greensleeves: There is a released version of Greensleeves with Neil singing lead on Ben Keiths Christmas album Seven Gates, sung with Christmas lyrics. This one from the famed Bottom Line show has the original, traditional lyrics some say were written by Henry VIII. 14.  Dead Man, Acoustic Theme: How this one didnt get on the soundtrack album is a real mystery. The spoken words here were read by the actor Johnny Depp who stars in the Dead Man movie. Liner Notes These eighty two songs were compiled to give Neil Young fans an insight into the artists incredible unreleased catalog. Released or unreleased, that is the question. The answers are not as simple as they would seem. I have included in here a few songs that have actually been sold in stores at one time or another.
