I'll never forget the time we spent in the Dao Valley. Little hamlets made up of 2 - 5 of these types of huts were scattered throughout the valley. We were greeted so warmly! I found myself thinking, "If this is how the Lord wants to use our lives, even if it were just this small group, it would well be worth it." They may look like they are lining up for a picture but what they are really doing is sitting beside a small creek watching us take our baths. Two Dao men. The one on the right seemed to be one of the important leaders in this community.
We noticed this sore on the back of one of the young girls leg. The more we looked around the more we noticed that it must be a very contagious sore. Every one in that family had the same type of ulcer. We think that it may be perhaps yaws. Tim Whatley was able to clean up the sore and put some antibiotic ointment on it, but she really needed to start a course of anitbiotics. This is the girls mother. You can see dramatically the sores have spread from mother to baby. I cleaned up three fairly good sized sores on this guy. No matter how hard I scrubbed he never even wimpered.
This is the foot of the boy I cleaned up above. The smell was pretty bad. We tried to go down between the toes when we were cleaning it. Since we left the next day, I often wonder how these sores healed up. A young boy getting a piggy back ride. I guess kids around the world like that. A Dao man. I hope you pray for the people of the Dao valley. They are so needy both physically and spiritually. I called this guy "Smiley". I never saw him when he wasn't smiling.
