Helimission has bent over backwards to service us in anyway they can. We do need an airstrip however, both for our longterm ministry with the Maniwo as well as the economic development of the people. (Anderson and Lieke Panambunan with children Noel and Tyana). As rugged as our valley is, it was quite an effort with a lot of help from SIL, MAF, and Helimission to finally find a suitable place for a strip. Bottom left shows the end of the strip above where our houses are located. Our first job was to begin slashing and burning.
Tim and I both worked to cut up logs. Steve working with the chainsaw to cut the trees up into movable pieces. Anderson worked with the tribal people to burn off logs and brush. We praise the Lord for real camaraderie as we worked together.
The next job is to take what is left and make it flat -- yeah right!?! The Maniwo are so few with superstitions about spirits being in the ground. We need help! We have brought in a Christian work crew from the coast to work full time on the strip. To the workers this is more than a job. This is taking part in reaching their own for Christ. Carolyn and I are so glad to be a part of this ministry. I hope you are too! Thank you for making this a possibility.
