Thrissur may be a small town for many, but its history will equally match with any of the cities in Kerala.  This town had a very prominent role when it was part of the Kingdom of Cochin. Trade flourished in this town. Thrissur had a very busy dock (the present day Kokkalai) from where goods brought in through land was transported to Cochin through boats. The Head Quarters of the Cochin Infantry Brigade was at Aana Para (the present day Ramavarmapuram police camp). During the days of freedom struggle Thrissur's Thekkinkad Maidan echoed with the speeches made by prominent leaders.

After 44 years, Thrissur has been declared a City. This City might be the only one in Kerala which still looks like a small town. Thrissur has some good beautifully designed buildings and my friend managed to get some photographs of them.

Thrissur Town HallTown Hall
This proud looking building is the Town Hall of Thrissur town. This building houses a good stage and auditoriam and also the Public Library. There is also a neatly maintained garden around the building. This building was originally constructed by the Cochin Maharaja.

Palace of Shakthan ThampuranShakthan Thampuran's Palace
Many people would not have noticed this classic building which is inside a well built wall near the Thrissur North Bus Stand. This was the palace of Shakthan Thampuran, one of the bravest kings f the Cochin dynasty. He was the person who made Thrissur a modern town, and also started the famous Thrissur Pooram.

Municipal Office - ThrissurMunicipal Office, Thrissur
Here is another good picture of the Municipal Office. This is the office of the Municipal Chairman and other politicians. The building when seen directly never gives the majestic look which this photograph has (!!) Opposite this building was the Kasaba Police Station which was the only station for the town.
