Student Objectives: Select text; Delete and type over text;  Undo and redo recent actions; Cut, copy, and paste text; Using the clipboard; Use drag and drop to move or copy text.

What is selecting?
1) It is where you highlight or blacken text.
2) I must highlight or select text before I give it a command.

What is Deselecting Text?
1) It is when you take the highlight off the text.
2) You can click anywhere outside of the black text to deselect it.

What is the difference between double-clicking and triple-clicking?
1) Double-clicking highlights the word.
2) Triple-clicking highlights the paragraph.

What are other methods to selecting within a document?
1) To select a line: Click 1 time in the left margin beside the line.
2) To select a sentence: Press CTRL and click once within the sentence.
3) To select multiple paragraphs or lines: Click and drag the mouse within the document or double-click within the left margin.
4) To select an entire paragraph: Click 3 times in the margin or hold down CTRL and click once in the left margin, or choose Edit, Select All.

What are the 2 ways to delete characters?
1) Pressing the Backspace key, which deletes one character to the left of the cursor or insertion point.
2) Pressing the Delete key, which removes the one character to the right of the insertion point.

What is Overtype Mode?
1)  It is useful for replacing existing text.  It allow you to "type over" text.
2) Command: Double-click the OVR on the status bar to turn it on or off OR by pressing the "Insert" key.

What are the Undo, Redo, and Repeat commands?
1) These are used when wanting to undo, or redo previous changes to text.
2) Undo Command:  reverses recent actions.  The command is Edit, Undo or press the icon which looks like a backwards arrow.
3) Redo Command: Reverses an undo action.  The icon button is a forward arrow.
4) Repeat Command:  Repeats your last action.  Choose Edit, Repeat.

What is the Cut Command?
1) It allows the user to move or delete text.
2) Command:  Edit, Cut, the Scissor icon, or right click selected text and choose Cut.

What is the Copy Command?
1) It allows the user to make a duplicate of text.
2) Command: Edit, Copy; the Copy icon, or right click (shortcut key) selected text and choose Copy.

For Word XP
What is the Clipboard for Word XP?

1) Temporary storage space in memory, which will store cut or copied text sent it up to 24 items or until the user clears the Clipboard.
2) Command: Choose View, Task Pane, then click the down arrow within the Task Pane to choose the "Clipboard" option.

What is Drop and Drag?
1) A feature used to move text a short distance within a document.
2) How do I do it?: Select text, then move mouse within selected text, hold down mouse and drag text to its new location.
