Student Objectives: Adjust indents and line spacing; Set the margins of a document; Set and use tabs; Sort text; Create bulleted, numbered, and outline numbered lists; Change and customize lists.

What is an indent?
1) An indent is the space left between the margin and the beginning of text. One can indent from the left, right, or both margins.

What are the types of indent?
1) There are several types:
    a) Left or Right Indent: Indents text from either the left or right margin. 
    b) First Line Indent: Indents only the 1st line of text. (Note: After you set a 1st Line Indent in one paragraph, all subsequent paragraphs will have the same 1st line indent)
    c) Hanging Indent: Indents all other lines except the 1st one.

What are the commands or various ways for indenting ? 
1)  Using the markers on the ruler: First line indent is the top triangle; Hanging indent is the bottom triangle; Left indent is the bottom triangle; Right indent is the right bottom triangle
2) Using the Increase/Decrease Indent buttons/icons.
3) Choosing Format, Paragraph, then either choosing Left, Right or Special from the Indentation Section of the dialog box.

How do I move the first-line indent and hanging indent at the same time?
1)  They are close together, thus move the left indent marker and then drag to the desired location.

What are the command(s) for line spacing?

1) One command for line spacing is Format, Paragraph, then Line Spacing from the dialog box.
2) A keyboard shortcut command is Ctrl+1 (Single); Ctrl+2 (Double); or Ctrl+5 (1.5 line spacing) 
3) Clicking the Line Spacing button/icon on the Formatting toolbar.

What are margins?
1) The blank space around the top, bottom, and sides of a document.
2) The standard for business margins is 1 inch.

What is the command for changing margins?
2) The command for changing margins is File, Page Setup, then Margins tab.
3) When starting Microsoft Word, Microsoft has default margins (margins already pre-set) for the user.  Default means pre-set.

What are tabs?
1) It marks the place where the insertion point will stop when the tab key is pressed. 
2) Tabs can be aligned by the left, center, right, decimal, or bar. 
3) Tabs are useful for creating tables or aligning numbered items.
4) Tabs may be preceded by solid, dotted, or dashed lines called leaders, which fill in blank spaces before the tab setting.

How are tabs set?
1) By using the menu command: Format, Tabs, choosing Clear or Clear All,  and choosing either Left, Center, Right, Decimal, or Bar Tab.

2) By using the tab marker on the ruler in Microsoft Word. (Note: each time you click the marker; another type of tab becomes available)
3) Left align tabs are defaulted (pre-set) for 1/2 inch.

How do decimal tabs align numbers?
1) By their decimals.  See below:

What is sorting?
1) Sorting arranges a list of words in ascending order (a-z) or descending order (z to a).
2)Command: The menu bar command for sorting is Table, Sort; the Toolbar icon command is a button that looks like an A-Z pointing downward.

What are bullets and why are they useful?  
1) Bullets are symbols used to list information.
2)  They are useful when it is difficult to distinguish between groups of items bunched together in a sentence.

3) Command:  The user may press the bullet icon on the Toolbar or Insert, Bullets/Numbering from the Menu bar.
4)  Pictures, symbols, and icons can all be used as bullets.

What is a numbered list?
1) A numbered list is used when items appear subsequentially, such as instructions.
2) Command: Press the Numbering button/icon or choosing Format, Bullets/Numbering.

How can I change the appearance of a bullet or numbered list?
1) Choose Format, Bullets/Numbering
2) Click either the Bulleted or Numbered tab in the dialog box.
3) Choose the style of bullet or number desired; or choose Picture to see more pictures or bullets or numbers; or the user can choose Customize to further change the position, look, or font of a particular bullet or number.

What is Multi-leveled Lists?
1) When a listing contains 2 or more levels of bullets and numbering.
2) A user can create multilevel lists such as outlines by choosing the Outline Numbered tab in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box.
