What is Desktop Publishing?
1) It is the process of combining text and graphics, using a computer to create interactive documents.
2) Using desktop publishing, one can design a newsletter, advertisement, or a program.

What are columns and how do I create 
them ?

1) Columns separates text vertically down a page such as a newsletter.
2) Command(s):  Format, Columns or pressing the Columns icon/button on the toolbar.
3) In the Columns dialog box the user can specify the number of columns desired (you can create up to 12 columns), the width of the columns, if a line is to separate the columns, etc.
4) When creating columns, Word automatically switches to Print Layout View so that the columns will appear side by side on the screen.

What are graphics?
1) Pictures that help illustrate the meaning of text, make the page more attractive, or make the page more functional.
2) Word has pre-defined shapes, diagrams, and charts, as well as pictures.
3) To draw graphics, you must be in Print Layout view.

How do I begin drawing graphics?
1) Click the Drawing button on the toolbar.
2) This Drawing toolbar contains buttons for drawing and manipulating objects such as lines, arcs, rectangles, circles and freeform shapes.
3) Put your mouse over each icon on the Drawing toolbar to either draw an object or to see what each icon does.  Once an object is selected, the user must drag and draw the object in their document.

What is the Drawing Canvas?

1) When you insert a drawing object in Word, a drawing canvas is placed around it.  
2) The drawing canvas helps you arrange a drawing in your document, and it keeps parts of your drawing together.
3) It provides a frame-like boundary between your drawing and the rest of your document.
4) If you don't want to use the drawing canvas, you can drag the drawing object off the drawing canvas, select the canvas, and then delete it.

Which key, when pressed allows the user to draw perfect squares, circles, etc.?
1) The shift key

Can drawing objects be manipulated or changed?
1) Drawing objects can be resized, copied, moved, layered, grouped, flipped, rotated, etc.

How does a user select or highlight a drawing or graphic?
1) By clicking the graphic object, and handles appear around the object.  
2) These handles can be used to drag the object or resize it.
3) Objects must be selected before any manipulation or changes an be made to it.
4) De-selection of an object means to click outside or away from the object.

For Office XP
What are sizing handles?
1) Little circles  that appear around an object.  They allow the user to resize an object such as a drawing, clip art, etc.
2) The diagonal handles allow the user to resize the object proportionally.

Can objects be cut, copied, and pasted?
1) Yes they can. Objects are cut, copied, and pasted just like text.
2) Simply select the object, then either cut or copy it to the Clipboard and Paste it in its new position.

How do I change the appearance of objects?
1) By adding color or changing the color of lines.
2) This is done by selecting the object (handles appear), then choosing either the Fill Color button or Line Color button on the Drawing Toolbar.
3) Another way to change appearance is selecting the Line Style button on the Drawing Toolbar, this allows the user to select various weights and appearances of lines.

What is object layering and how do I use it?
1) Object layering allows the user to rearrange the order in which objects have been layered or put on top of each other.
2) These commands to adjust object layering are on the Drawing menu toolbar.  Choose Draw, then Order on the Drawing Toolbar.  The user can bring objects to the Front, Back, etc.

How do I select more than one object?
1) More than one object or drawing may be selected at once by either using the Shift-clicking method or by using the Select Objects tool from the drawing toolbar.

What is grouping?
1) Grouping allows you to work or "glue" several objects as though they were one object.
2) Command: Select objects you want to group, then choose Draw, Group from the draw toolbar. Note: Objects can be ungrouped using the Ungroup command.

What is flipping an object and how do I do it?
1) Objects can be modified (changed) by flipping or rotating it.
2) Flipping reverses orientation or direction of the selected object.
3) Command: for flipping an object is Draw, Rotate or Flip.
4) Note: When choosing the "Free Rotate" command, the object becomes surrounded with green handles where you click and draw to rotate the object.

How do I wrap text around graphics?
1) Select the graphic, then choose Format, Picture, then Layout.  Choose a wrapping style.
2) You can also select Text Wrapping from the Draw menu on the Drawing toolbar. (Draw, Text Wrapping)
