Project: BIG
BRONCO
Custom Stereo
Installation
People are sometimes looking for an exotic piece of furniture that can fit smaller apartments and abodes. They need something that is stylish, modern, but still exude that elegant charm. Plus, if the furniture can serve dual or multi purposes, then that piece is the winner! Oriental furniture
like free standing kitchen cabinets
is one great example of this. They not only provide a lot of storage area in the kitchen but because they’re free standing, you can also use them as a divider or another cabinet in another area around the apartment that is not necessarily the kitchen.
A variety of Asian furniture
feature multi functionality in their design. The Tansu for instance is used not only as a storage area, but a divider and a staircase as well. A reclaimed wood dining table can also be used as a workstation and as a play station for kids. You need imagination and flexibility to adapt to the needs of the times. You do not need a very big house to own modern Asian furniture. You just need to be imaginative and creative enough.
Ok, have you ever
heard a killer sounding stereo from a stock 78 radio and speakers? Probably not.
But I have built a pretty good system for my bronco.
What I got to
start out with: Pioneer
CD player (mid 90's - got it for free, rated 35Wx4), 2 pairs of new Sony Xplod
6x9's, an old pair of Sony 6x9's, a new pair of Sony Xplod 6.5" round's,
and an old 140W rms amplifier, all of which work great.
The speakers (some of them)
The door after taking off the decorative panel....the speaker hole is just a
hair too small for the 6.5"'s
making a custom adapter ring so the 6.5" speakers will fit into the door. I
used saber saw, router, sander, and some scrap wood.
Checking the fit of the adapter ring.
The adapter, painted and screwed in place (note...I forgot to countersink the
screw holes until after I painted it).
The 6.5" speaker screwed in place.
The speaker installed in the door and door panel back on. I didnt do a
perfect job of cutting the door panel for the speaker but i am pleased with how
it turned out.
Starting on the 6x9's. Making 2 boxes, and each will have a pair of 6x9's.
Another construction shot.
Woohoo, the boxes are starting to take form!
The speaker hook-ups. I used Radio Shack terminals and the Sony provided wires
(I spliced together so that each pair would share the same connectors).
The enclosures being sprayed black.
Mounting the terminals in the boxes.
Finally, done.
Thats me bolting in the speakers.
Bracket I made for the CD player (its laying upside down).
The CD player set into the bracket.
More to come!
