Maria's Story Continued 10

I met my husband at a party in London and we started dating. My husband and I lived together for a while before we married. I was six months pregnant when we were married. We were married when I was just turned nineteen in February and we married in the March 1971. When my daughter was born in June 1971 it was an extremely hard birth she was a breech baby with forceps to the head and in those days for the first three days I was not allowed to see her as the nurses fed her etc... I was beginning to think that something was wrong with her so I begged the nurses and doctor's to let me see her which they did. That set my mind at rest as she was perfect in every way. I was in hospital for ten days following the birth. When I came out of hospital and I was at home in our flat I was petrified as I had never been shown love in childhood and I did not know anything about motherhood. I found it extremely hard to cope and yes my husband and I had our ups and downs. We did part company after seven years of marriage for a while but we reconciled our differences and came back together again and have been together ever since. I have one daughter who I love very much and she has six children my grandchildren. My daughter has three boys and three girls who I adore and love very much they are beautiful they all have individual character's and personalities beautiful children they are and my daughter is a very good mother and is very good with them her patience is unlimited as far as the children are concerned. The ages of my grandchildren are from 13 weeks-10 years. I have a full time job and my husband works full time also. We lived in Essex until 1975 were my husband worked at Ford Motor Company on shifts he is an Industrial Chemist by trade. My husband wanted to come off shifts so applied for a job in the Midlands and was successful and we moved house not far from Nottingham. My daughter was only four at the time. I remember our first day at our new house we were busy unpacking boxes etc and my daughter became bored so she sneaked outside we were in a cul-de-sac and on one of the neighbours walls was six pints of milk what did she do emptied the lot I was mortified to say the least so I shot round to the local shop and replaced the milk and when I saw the neighbour I explained what had happened but she told me she had been away for the weekend and she had asked the milkman to cancel and I needn't have replaced the milk but he had forgotten anyway can you imagine the scene me going out to clear up the milk not knowing anyone and I was really embarrassed to say the least I have a laugh about it now but at the time it was no joke.
