CBS had the top three newsmagazines in the ratings last week for the first
time since the premiere of "60 Minutes II" in January, leading the network
to an easy prime-time win.
The venerable "60 Minutes" was the week's most-watched program, drawing an
estimated 13.3 million viewers. "60 Minutes II" on Wednesday and the
summertime "Monday Mysteries" edition of "48 Hours" also both made the
week's top 10 shows.
For the week, CBS had a 6.7 rating and 13 share, Nielsen Media Research
said Tuesday. NBC was second with a 5.8 rating and 11 share, ABC had a 5.4
rating and 10 share and Fox had a 4.0 rating and 8 share.
ABC's showdown between golfers Tiger Woods and David Duval had an average
audience of 9.7 million, making it the 17th-rated program of the week. ABC
estimated more than 20 million people tuned in to at least some of the
unusual prime-time golf special.
Two hours of prime-time rock 'n' roll didn't go over well on Fox. Its "Best
of Woodstock '99" special finished in 84th place for the week, with only
4.9 million viewers.
Among the other networks, the WB had a 2.3 rating and 4 share, UPN had a
1.6 rating and 3 share and Pax was at 0.8 and 2.
ABC's "World News Tonight" won the evening news ratings race for the second
straight week with a 7.0 rating and 16 share. The "NBC Nightly News" had a
6.8 rating and 16 share, and the "CBS Evening News" was at 5.7 and 13.
A rating point represents 994,000 households, or 1 percent of the nation's
estimated 99.4 million TV homes. The share is the percentage of in-use
televisions tuned to a given show.
