His Citation Reads:


Serving as Howitzer Section Chief with Battery B, 6th Battalion, 29th Field Artillery, SSgt Hackett's gun crew came under intensive mortar attack with fifteen enemy mortar rounds landing in or near his position. Braving the enemy fire to insure expedient preparations for effective counter fire was being conducted, SSgt Hackett was mortally wounded by mortar fragments. Inspired by his bravery the unit was able to successfully repel the enemy attack.
