EMILY (now Chubby) WAS ADOPTED MARCH 6, 2001!

FIRST ANNIVERSARY UPDATE - March 8, 2002
Dear Foster Mommy,

My new mom is a little busy so I thought I would help her out.. Can you believe it's already one year with my new family? I'm so happy to be with them.. I was a little scared being at the shelter - usually it's the young dogs that get adopted first.. You saved me and I will always be grateful.  After all, just because I'm a little older doesn't mean I wouldn't be a terrific friend. In fact, from what my new friends say, I am the PERFECT dog.. Impeccably housebroken, well behaved and just bursting with love to share.. And share I do.. I have friends that range in age from 6 months old all the way to 90 years+ and I'm sweet and gentle with all of them.. When I go for a walk with my canine sister Sonia, our neighbors actually open the door for us - and in we go! We love to visit and because we're so good we are always welcome! People are so surprised when they see me jump into the car - that's when we go to the park! And I just love to meet and greet my human, feline and canine buddies.. Mom calls me the ambassador for shelter dog adoptions.. Yes, I'm a little older but people are amazed at just how quick I am.. I just know what to do and when to do it! ( and always with a "smile" )

There is always music surrounding me.. I can't think of the song but here are some of the words - "Hi Chubby", " Who's my good girl", "Want to go for a walk?"... It's feels so good - it's true, the sounds of my family talking to me -- truly music to my canine ears!! Sonia and I aren't just "the
dogs" - we are really part of the family.. Mom calls me her little "bagle" - I think it stands for basset - beagle.. Plus, because my canine sister is blind I am her seeing eye dog.. Guess that makes me one of the only seeing-eye "bagle"s.... Well, gotta go - speaking of Sonia - she wants to go out and she just feels better when I am with her... She's a feisty little thing, but with me, she's a sweetheart... I just have that special way about me!

We will be sending pictures real soon! Please keep doing what you are doing - there are so many of my feline and canine friends that have love to give..We are forever thankful..

Love always, Chubby ( a/k/a/ Emily )

UPDATE:
Just wanted you to know that our new addition is doing just great!!   Emily (now known as Chubby - blame my brother for that! ) has been spayed, has a beautiful "smile" and is getting her girlish figure back.   What a delight she has been..  The "girls" get along beautifully...  Chubby sure can run!! She had a few days that she didn't feel too good - surgery can do that- but she is doing just fine now...

I'll get whatever formal paperwork you may need within the next two weeks. Her stitches come out on the 30th.  We also took care of a little tumor on her eye, plus took care of her "scooting" problem and her teeth look so pretty that she even smiles now.

She warms the heart of whoever sees her.   I'll try to get some photos for you.  But we are still working on her diet - she's seems so happy that food is no longer #1.  Tough life - she gets long walks with "sister" Sonia - can go in the yard , sun on the deck,  run all she wants.   Nothing like good fresh air, exercise and lots and lots of love to shave the pounds and the years.

Please do NOT even consider refunding my spay deposit.  Maybe that small amount can help save another life.

( ps - when we first got her, my brother was home all week with the flu. He was referring to her as the chubby one and she got used to hearing that and began coming - lets make that running! - whenever he called her .  Sorry about that - but she does seem to like the name )

Hope all is well and again, thank you so much!

Emily's Story:
What, I ask you, is a girl to do when one is bored and depressed?  I am sure you would answer, "Eat, eat and eat some more..."  Well, that is exactly what our Emily did while she was in the shelter for almost 3 months.  With nothing to do but sit in a cage day after day after day, Emily packed on a few extra pounds.  The shelter staff asked us to please consider taking Emily since she is so sweet and was becoming very depressed. So Emily is now in one of our foster homes where she awaits a new home with someone who will share carrot sticks with her and take her for a lap or two around the block every day.  You just wait and see - that and a little love and attention will be all it will take to get Emily's girlish figure back.  Emily is about 5-7 years old and currently weighs 40 pounds although her ideal weight should be in the lower 30's. She is very calm around other dogs and gets along well with them.  Cats are OK, too.  If they try to eat out of her bowl with her, she will just politely shove them out of the way with her nose.  After all, when one is on a diet, there is no extra food to share! Emily is a foster mom's dream dog - young enough to have fun but old enough to know how to behave!
