The Nibbs Family
Alene Maduro

The house near the end of New York's Noble Avenue had to be everyone's home away from home.  For more than a few, Auntie Alene helped us transistion through life without the safety and security of our small Virgin Island communities.  Notwithstanding her large family which she acquired by marriage, two children of her own, and an 8 - 5 job, she found time to shepard many of us we looked for opportunities in the city where everyone went to "better their lives".  Some of us stayed for weeks, months or even years.  Others of us simply dropped by.  Hers was a place to meet other cousins.  Auntie Alene has always made sure that everyone feels welcome.  We could also count on it - there would be lamb stew on Wednesdays, fish on Fridays, and roast beef for dinner on Sundays.
