Basic Word Processing Steps

1. When you open a new word processing document:
To start, margins are set at 1 inch and should be left at 1 inch at least while doing typing and editing so you can see across the page without scrolling. Document margins can be changed by choosing the Document command from Format menu

2. Get all information typed in the simplest and fastest way. This means you should concentrate on the typing, not styling and indenting. You are to begin all typing on the far left. All paragraphs and lists should start on the far left and let word wrap take place if the sentence does not fit across the page. Do not press return unless you wish to start a new paragraph. Use returns at the end of each paragraph and after items such as titles and 1 line lists

3. Enter text in plain style. Do not do style changes, justification such as centering, indents, or double spacing, at this time. The rule for computers is to type one space between words and one space after punctuation, and two spaces between sentences.

4. When simple typing is complete proofread and edit for obvious spelling errors, spacing mistakes between words, and sentence or grammar errors. The Thesaurus is useful to find and replace words. From the Edit menu choose Writing Tools sub menu and then Thesaurus.

5. Do a computer spell check by choosing the check spelling option. From the Edit menu choose the Writing Tools sub menu and then Check Document Spelling.

6. Style menus are available from various menus to simplify the styling processYou can also select appropriate text and use page margin controls and first line indent controls to do any necessary indents. Columns, spacing between lines, and justification can also be done automatically with the menu icons

7. Do all size, style, and font changes before adding graphics . If a border is necessary, select all text and drag left and right page markers to make room for a border. Add special text frames and graphic objects.

8. Set Zoom percentage box to a smaller view to view full page and decide on necessary adjustments in overall appearance before printing
