Practice 6 .............. Bold, italic, and underlined text
This Practice demonstrates the use of bold, italic, and underlined text. Start AppleWorks and open COUGAR UNIVERSITY if you
have not already done so.
1 ) HIGHLIGHT THE BLOCK TO BE BOLD
a. Move the pointer to the "Cougar University" title at the top of the document.
b. Triple-click the mouse button to highlight the entire title.
c. From the Style menu, select the Bold command. The highlighted text changes to bold on the screen.
2) ITALICIZE THE NEXT LINE USING THE KEYBOARD SHORTCUT
a. Move the pointer to the next line, the subtitle which begins "The Ultimate...."
b. Triple-click the mouse button to highlight the entire title.
c. Press Command I to apply the Italic format using the keyboard shortcut. The text is shown in italic on the screen.
3) UNDERLINE THE FIRST LINE IN THE NEXT PARAGRAPH
a. Move the cursor to the "C" in "Cougar University is one of"...
b. Drag down one line and to the right to highlight the entire sentence. Do not include the space after the sentence in
the highlight.
c. From the Style menu, select the Underline command. The text is underlined.
4) REMOVE UNDERLINING FROM PART OF TtlE SENTENCE
a. Place the cursor after the "y" in "University" in the first sentence.
b. Highlight to the end of the sentence, including the period.
c. Make this text plain by selecting the Plain Text command from the Style menu. Only "Cougar University" is
now underlined.
d. Click anywhere to remove the highlight.
5) SAVE COUGAR UNIVERSITY
From the File menu, select Save to save the modified COUGAR UNIVERSITY on disk. The next time COUGAR UNIVERSITY is loaded,
the bold, italic, and underlined text will be present.
Check - The title should be in bold, the next line in italics, and the "Cougar University" in the first sentence
underlined.
Practice 7.............Font and size character formats.
**PRINT THE FIRST PAGE ONLY(#5)**
This Practice demonstrates the use of font and size character formats. Start AppleWorks and open COUGAR UNIVERSITY if it is
not already open.
1) CHANGE THE HEADER FONT
a. Place the cursor in the first paragraph of the document.
b. Move the mouse pointer to the Font menu in the Menu bar. Click and hold down the mouse button, but do not drag down
the menu.
c. Note the selected font. Geneva was used to format the entire document. Release the mouse button.
d. Place the l-Beam pointer in the document's header. Triple-click the mouse button to highlight the header text.
e. Move the mouse pointer to the Menu bar. Click and hold down the mouse button on the Font menu. Note the currently selected
font is Helvetica - the default font.
f. From the Font menu, select Geneva. The header text is reformatted in Geneva.
2) INCREASE THE SIZE OF THE TITLE
a. Triple-click in the title at the top of the document, "Cougar University."
b. From the Size menu, select 18 Point. The highlighted text is now bold and 18 points. Note how some text is moved down
to make room for the larger letters.
3) CHANGE THE FONT OF THE NEXT LINE
a. Triple-click in the very next line which begins "The Ultimate in" The entire line is highlighted.
b. From the Font menu, select Monaco. The shape of the letters changes on the screen.
Check - The header should be Geneva, the title should be in bold and 18 point text, and the next line in italic Monaco.
4) CHANGE THE FOOTER FONT
a. Scroll down until the document's footer is visible.
b. Place the l-Beam pointer in the document's footer. Triple click the mouse button to select the footer text.
c. From the Font menu, select Geneva. The footer text, including the page # code is reformatted in Geneva.
5. SAVE AND PRINT THE FIRST PAGE OF THE DOCUMENT
a. Save the modified file on disk. The next time COUGAR UNIVERSITY is loaded the formatted text will be present.
b. Press Command P to display the Print dialog box.
c. Click on the radio button beside the From option. Note the blinking cursor in the From box. Enter 1 in this box. Move
the pointer to the To box and click the mouse. Enter 1 in this box.
d. Select Print to print the file. Only the first page of the document will be printed. Note how the text in the printout
resembles that shown on the screen. One of the main benefits of using a Macintosh is its ability to display formatted text
on the screen as it will be printed.
Practice 8 ................... Superscripts and subscripts
In this Practice you will create superscripts and subscripts. Start AppleWorks and open, COUGAR UNIVERSITY if you have not
already done so.
1 ) LOCATE THE FACULTY LIST
Scroll through COUGAR UNIVERSITY until the Faculty Members list is on the screen (near the middle of page 3). We will
create the superscripts and subscripts for the formula in Dr. Scalp's description - C2H50H3.
2) CREATE THE FORMULA SUBSCRIPTS
a. Place the cursor before the "2" and drag one character to the right, highlighting only the "2."
b. From the Style menu, select the Subscript command. Note how the highlighted text is placed slightly below the line.
c. Highlight the "5" in the formula.
d. Press and hold the Shift and Command keys. Press the Minus (-) key. The "5" is now subscripted.
3) CREATE THE FORMULA SUPERSCRIPTS
a. Drag the mouse over the "3," highlighting it.
b. From the Style menu, select the Superscript command.
4) SAVE THE MODIFIED COUGAR UNIVERSITY
Practice 9 ................ Shortcuts palette to show invisible characters
In this Practice you will use the Shortcuts palette to show invisible characters and change the style and alignment of selected
text. The Option key will be used to enter a special character. If you have not already done so, start AppleWorks and open
COUGAR UNIVERSITY.
1 ) WORK WITH THE SHORTCUTS PALETTE
a. From the File menu, drag down to the Shortcuts command. From the sub menu shown, select the Show Shortcuts command.
b. Place the pointer on the Shortcuts palette's title bar (not on the Close box).
c. Drag the Shortcuts palette to a new location on the screen and release the mouse.
d. Roll up the Shortcuts palette by clicking on its Roll-up box. The buttons disappear and only a title bar is displayed
near the Ruler.
e. Click on the Shortcuts palette Roll-up box again. Note that the palette is restored to its last location and its buttons
are visible.
f. Drag the palette to the upper-right edge of the window so that it obscures little text.
2) SHOW INVISIBLE CHARACTERS
Click on the Show Invisibles button on the Shortcuts palette (¶). Note the special symbols displayed on the screen.
3) INSERT A SPECIAL CHARACTER
a. Place the cursor at the end of the subtitle at the top of the document, the line which begins "The Ultimate in
" The blinking cursor should be displayed just before the Return character at the end of the line.
b. Hold down the Option key and press the R key. A registered mark appears. The mark is italic because this entire line
was formatted as italic in a previous Practice.
4) CHANGE THE STYLE OF A WORD
a. Double-click on the word "challenging" in the second sentence of the first paragraph, highlighting it.
b. Click on the Bold button on the Shortcuts palette. The highlighted text is shown as bold. The sentence may shift due
to the increased space required by the bold characters.
5) CENTER THE FOOTER TEXT
a. Scroll through the document until the footer is displayed.
b. Move the l-Beam pointer so that it is in the footer area of the document and click the mouse. Note the insertion point
in the footer.
c. Click on the Align Center button on the Shortcuts palette. The footer is now centered.
6)SAVE THE MODIFIED FILE
Click on the Save button on the Shortcuts palette. The file is saved to disk using the name COUGAR UNIVERSITY.
7) CLOSE THE COUGAR UNIVERSITY FILE
Click on the Close box in the upper-left corner of the window. The file is removed from memory and the screen clears.
The Shortcuts palette now displays a different set of buttons.
Practice 10 ............ Set and delete tab stops
In this next section you will set and delete tab stops, creating a formatted table. Start AppleWorks and open COUGAR UNIVERSITY.
Display the Shortcuts palette and use the Show Invisibles button to display special symbols if they are not already displayed.
1 ) LOCATE THE STUDENT DIVERSITY TABLE
Scroll to the Student Diversity section, located near the end of the document. This table has been entered using tabs.
There is a single tab between each column - one tab between "Area" and "Students," another between "Students"
and "Percentage," and so on for the entire table. However, because tab stops have not yet been set, this table is
not easy to read.
2) ADD A LINE TO THE UNFORMATTED TABLE
a. You will add a line to the table. Place the cursor at the end of the South America line. After 10.47%, but before the
Return character.
b. Press Return. A new line is added to the table.
c. Press the Tab key once to indent the line. Type Other as the area.
d. Press Tab again and type 4.9 as the number of students.
e. Press Tab and type 0.89% as the percent. Each of the lines in this table was entered similarly.
3) HIGHLIGHT THE TABLE
a. We wish to set three tab stops that are the same for the entire table. So that we only have to enter the tab stops
once, we will highlight the table first. Any tab stops created then affect the entire highlighted block. Place the cursor
anywhere in the title of the. table,"Area Students Percentage."
b. Drag the mouse slowly down the table. When the highlight is in the last line of the table (5,501), release the button.
Any tab stops now set will affect each highlighted line in the table.
4) SET THE FIRST TAB STOP FOR THE TABLE
a. The first column of the table should be left aligned at 1 3/4 (1.75) inches. Drag the Left tab stop button from the
Format bar into the line below the Ruler. Release the mouse. A left aligned tab stop is set at the current location. Note
how the table is reformatted.
b. Drag the inserted tab marker towards the 1 3/4 inch marker. When the marker is at 1 3/4 inches, release the mouse.
The table is reformatted with each line starting at 1 3/4 inches.
5) SET THE SECOND AND THIRD TAB STOPS
a. The second column of the table should be right aligned at 4 inches. Drag the Right tab stop button into the space below
the Ruler.
b. Drag the right tab stop marker to the 4 inch mark.
c. The last column is decimal aligned at 5 1/4 inches. Drag the Decimal tab stop button down to the 5 1/4. inch mark.
The table is now complete, and easy to read.
6) SAVE THE MODIFIED COUGAR UNIVERSITY
a. Save the modified file. The next time it is opened, COUGAR UNIVERSITY will have the tab stops set.
7) CLOSE COUGAR UNIVERSITY
a. From the File menu, select Quit to leave AppleWorks and return to the operating System.
