Practice 1 ............. Cut, Copy, and Paste commands

This Practice demonstrates the Cut, Copy, and Paste commands, and the Clipboard. A block consisting of a sentence will be moved, and an entire paragraph copied. The Clipboard window will be displayed and then closed.

1) START APPLEWORKS AND OPEN COUGAR UNIVERSITY

a. Open COUGAR UNIVERSITY from your student documents directory.

2) HIGHLIGHT THE BLOCK TO BE MOVED

a. From the File menu, use the Shortcuts command to display the Shortcuts palette. Click on the Show Invisibles button to display special symbols if they are not already shown.
b. Place the cursor at the beginning of the sentence which begins "There is a reaction..." in the second paragraph. Do not include the space before the "T."
c. Drag the mouse down and to the right to highlight the sentence, making sure to include the period at the end of the sentence and the space after the period in the block.

3) MOVE THE HIGHLIGHTED BLOCK

a. From the Edit menu, select the Cut command. The text is removed from the screen and placed on the Clipboard.
b. Place the cursor before the "W" that begins the sentence "With world famous..." in the first paragraph.
c. From the Edit menu, select the Paste command. The sentence is inserted in the paragraph at the cursor position.

4) HIGHLIGHT THE BLOCK TO BE COPIED

You will produce a copy of the first paragraph at the end of the document. Place the cursor in the first paragraph and click the mouse button four times in rapid succession to highlight the entire paragraph.

5) COPY THE HlGHLiGHTED BLOCK

a. Execute the Copy command using the keyboard shortcut (Command+C).
b. Use the scroll bars and mouse to place the cursor after the last line in the document.
c. Press the Return key to insert a new line.
d. Paste the block using the keyboard shortcut (Command+V). The paragraph is inserted at the bottom of the document

7) SAVE COUGAR UNIVERSITY

Practice 2 ................................. Find/Change

This Practice demonstrates the Find/Change command. The Go to page dialog box will aiso be used to display a page. You will begin by searching for each occurrence of the word "bandage" in the Ivy University promotional file. Open COUGAR UNIVERSITY .

1) EXECUTE THE FIND/CHANGE COMMAND

a. Make sure that the cursor is at the top of the COUGAR UNIVERSITY document.
b. In the Edit menu, drag down to the Find/Change command. From the Find/Change submenu, select the Find/Change command. The Find/Change dialog box is displayed.

2) ENTER THE SEARCH TEXT

a. Type the word Bandage (with a capital "B") in the Find box and select the Find Next button. There is a slight pause as APPLEWORKS searches the document. The first "bandage" found is in the course description for class 101.
b. If the search text found is not visible, it may be covered by the Find/Change dialog box. Drag on the title bar of the dialog box to move it to a new position. Note that "bandage"is highlighted in the text.

3) REPEAT THE FIND USING THE SAME SEARCH TEXT

a. To repeat the command using the same search text, simply select the Find Next button in the Find/Change dialog box. The cursor moves to the next occurrence of "bandage." Move the dialog box if necessary to view the search text.
b. Select Find Next again. Note that the highlighted word is "bandage" with a lowercase even though the search text is "Bandage."
c. Continue to select Find Next until the first occurrence of the word "bandage"is again found (the course description for class 101). Move the dialog box as necessary to view the highlighted text. How many did you find?
d. Remove the Find/Change dialog box by clicking on its Close box. Note how the last occurrence found is highlighted in the text.

4) GO DIRECTLY TO THE TOP OF PAGE 1

a. Double-click on the Page indicator in the lower-left corner of the screen. The Go to page dialog box is displayed.
b. Select OK to go to page 1, the default page. The top of page 1 is displayed. Move the I Beam pointer so that it is at the beginning of the document (before the Cougar University title). Click the mouse to place the insertion point.

5) MODIFY THE SEARCH TEXT

a. Press Command+F to execute the Find/Change command. The previously entered text is displayed in the Find box.
b. Click on the Case sensitive option so that only "Bandage" with a capital "B" will be found.
c. Select the Find Next button. Note how the highlighted search text has an uppercase "B."
d. Continue to select Find Next until all occurrences of "Bandage" have been found. How many did you find? Note how a more specific search has been created by using the available options.
e. Remove the Find/Change dialog box by clicking on its Close box.

Practice 3 .............................. Find/Change (Advanced)

Cougars University is considering updating its image by changing its name. This Practice will use the Find/Change command to change each occurrence of "Cougars University" to ''Modern College" in COUGAR UNIVERSITY . This will allow the administration to see how the document looks with the new name. If you have not already done so, start APPLEWORKS and open COUGAR UNIVERSITY.

1 ) EXECUTE THE FIND/CHANGE COMMAND

a. Make sure the cursor is at the beginning of COUGAR UNIVERSITY and page one displayed.
b. From the Edit menu, select the Find/Change command. In the dialog box note that some search text and options may be displayed from the previous Practice.
c. Type "Cougars University" for the Find text, replacing any old search text.
d. Press the Tab key once to move the cursor to the Change box and type "Modern College."
e. Click on the Find Next button to highlight the first occurrence of Cougar University.

2) REPLACE EACH OCCURRENCE

a. APPLEWORKS moves the cursor to the first occurrence of Cougars University and highlights it. Move the dialog box, if necessary, so that the highlighted text is visible.
b. Click on the Change button to replace the highlighted text with Modern College. The change is made on screen. Note how any formatting options (font, size, etc.) are retained.
c. Select the Find Next button to highlight the next occurrence of Cougars University.
d. Click on the Change, Find button. APPLEWORKS changes the highlighted occurrence and then highlights the next occurrence of the find text.
e. For each Cougars University found, click on the Change, Find button to make the replacement and then locate the next occurrence. When all Cougar Universities have been replaced, the following message is displayed: 'Cougar University" not found. Click on OK. All occurrences of Cougar University have been changed to Modern College.
f. Remove the Find/Change dialog box by clicking on its Close box. Scroll through the document to verify the changes.

3) REPLACE ALL OCCURRENCES OF MODERN COLLEGE

a. University officials have decided against the name change. From the Edit menu, execute the Find/Change command.
b. Type Modern College in the Find box and CougarsUniversity in the Change box.
c. Select the Change All button. Note the dialog box that appears: "The Change All feature is not undoable". Select OK to replace all of the occurrences of the search text with the find text.
d. APPLEWORKS displays a dialog box indicating the number of occurrences replaced. Select OK to remove the dialog box.
e. Click on the Close box in the Find/Change diaiog box. Scroll through the document to verify that all occurrences of Modern College have been replaced by Cougar University.

4) SAVE COUGAR UNIVERSITY

Practice 4 ......................... Check Document Spelling

Cougar University is about to have 50,000 copies of its promotional file printed. This practice uses the Check Document Spelling command to verify the spelling in that document before sending it to the print shop. Start APPLEWORKS if you have not already done so and open COUGAR UNIVERSITY .

1) EXECUTE THE SPELLING COMMAND

a. In the Edit menu, drag down to the Writing Tools command. Select the Check Document Spelling command from the submenu to start the spelling check. There is a slight pause as APPLEWORKS checks the spelling. APPLEWORKS finds a word that may be misspelled and displays it in the Spelling dialog box.
b. Click on the lever in the Spelling dialog box to see the questionable word in context.

2) CORRECT THE MISSPELLED WORD

a. APPLEWORKS finds the word "proffessional", checks its dictionary file, and highlights the most probable spelling "professional." Because "professional" is the word we want, click on the Replace button to accept the suggested spelling and have it replace the misspelled word in the file. APPLEWORKS makes the correction and continues to check the spelling.

3) CORRECT THE NEXT MISSPELLED WORD

a. APPLEWORKS finds the word "Decy" and suggests the spelling "Dewy."
b. Because the suggestion is not the one we want, use the down scroll arrow to scroll through the list and locate the correct spelling, "Decay."
c. Double-ciick on "Decay" to replace the misspelled word with it.

4) SKIP THE NUMBER AND PROPER NAMES

a. The next word in question is "20th". Click on Skip to ignore this text.
b. Click on the Skip button to ignore the correct spelling of the name "Phineas."
c. Continue to skip any proper names.
d. Skip the chemical formula C2H50H2.
e. Continue to skip any proper names.
f. When the spelling check is finished the Done button is displayed and the other buttons are dim. Click on Done to remove the dialog box.

5) SAVE COUGAR UNIVERSITY
