Defence Language Proficency Test (DLPT) Foreign Language Proficency Pay (FLPP)
Purpose
- The main purpose of the Foreign Language Proficiency Pay Program is to inform DA of service members who can speak a foreign language and then add that information to the databases.
- A secondary purpose of the program is to provide income that the soldier could receive in the civilian sector based on the fact that they are multi-lingual.
- Receiving Foreign Language Proficiency Pay is a two-step process. First the soldier must take the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) to determine how well the soldier understands the language. Once this ability is determined, then the request for Pay.
- The DLPT must be within twelve (12) months (Para 6-3b(2)).
