Banana Nut Bread
4 tbsp. shortening 1/2 cup sugar 1 beaten egg 1 cup bran 2 tbsp. water 1 1/2 cup mashed bananas 1 1/2 cup flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 cup nuts
Cream shorting and sugar. Add egg and then bran, mix thouroughly. Combine water and bananas, add alternately with sifted dry ingredients. Mix thoughtly. Add vanilla and nuts. Bake in 1 lb. loaf pan 1 hour at 350 degrees.
Date Nut Bread
1 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 tbsp. butter 2 1/4 cup boiling water 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla 3 tsp. soda 1 pkg. dates 1 cup nuts 2 eggs beaten 1 1/2 tsp. salt 4 1/4 cup flour
Cut up dates, chop nuts. Pour water and soda over dates, cool. Add rest of ingredients. Makes 2 loaves.
Sweet Roll Dough
1/2 cup warm water little sugar 2 packages of cake yeast 7 1/2 cup lukewarm milk 1/2 cup sugar 2 eggs, beaten 2 tsp. salt 1/2 cup soft shorting
Mix with spoon until smooth, add enough flour to handle easily. Cover and let rise until double in bulk, then kneed down. Let rise again, then shape into buns or rolls. Makes about 3 dozen rolls.
Never Fail Buns
3 cups luke warm water 1/2 cup sugar 2 pkg dry yeast 2 tsp. salt
Mix, when yeast rise to the top, add 4 eggs beaten 1/2 cup oil or foft ole 10 cups flour(about) Mix and knead well Let double in size Knead down and let rise again, after it rise the second time form into buns and put on greased tin Rise 1 hour Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Brush tops of buns with melted ole.
Makes about 4 dozen and it is very good. This is one of my mother's favorite recipe.
