mother, Queen Jeanne III of Navarre.

Henry inherited the throne of France
as a Protestant.

Henery led Protestant forces against the
Catholics.

To end the war, Henry converted to
Catholicism four years into his reign.

Henry promulgated the Edict of Nantes,
in 1598, guarantying religious liberties
to Protestants.

Thus ended the French Wars of Religion -
civil wars between French Catholics and
Protestants / Huguenots (1562 to 1598).

In 1607, Englishmen with the Virginia
Company sailed from England to North
America to establish a British colony,
called Virginia, and the first
settlement, Jamestown, named after
King James I of England.

The settlers met the native Americans
who inhabited the region, the
Tsenacommacah - the Powhatan
Confederacy.

Pocahontas, daughter of Wahunsenacawh,
chief of the Tsenacommacah, married a
colonist, John Rolfe, and traveled to
England. She had a child and died in
England.

According to a colonist in Virginia,
John Smith, Pocahontas saved his life
after his capture by the Powhatan.
