Celebrate Diversity!

Goals:
-connect history to your personal life
-increase our awareness of self and others in the class
-to become more aware of the diversity in our class

To Do First (notebook):
-Make a list of terms that define your identity
-Using the index and table of contents of the Modern World book, list 5 interesting events that are related to your identity (include the page numbers)

Examples to relate to your identity: Mexico, Central America, American, Africa, Europe, Latin/South America, Asia, African American, China, Vietnam, Chinese, Philippines, women, youth, revolutionaries, religion, language, immigrant, leader, belief system, artist, scientist, historical figure, war, or refugee to name a few.

Next Steps:
-From the list of 5, pick one for your History Page (notebook)
-Read & Write: Read, comprehend, and summarize the topic/event (notebook)
-Look at the textbook for FORMAT design ideas (how will you layout the page?)
-Design the page (sketch in your notebook first)
-Homework: Final Draft (also prepare a 1 minute presentation)
-Presentation (summarize event, how it connects to you, why you picked it)

Major Requirements for Final Draft (page format)
-Important facts, dates, location, etc. (Own words as much as possible)
-a TOPIC HEADING in bold print (see samples in the textbook)
-3-4 KEY TERMS SECTION (underline them when used)
-2-3 REVIEW QUESTIONS SECTION (you create the questions)
-1 ILLUSTRATION: map, picture, graph, chart, etc. (YOU DECIDE)
-Put your name on the back of the project (very important)

Time-frame:

Tuesday/Wednesday - (1) identify 5 events related to your identity,(2) read, comprehend, and summarize 1 topic (3) sketch first draft (4) make illustration (if time)

Thursday/Friday - (1) 15 minutes preparation (2) individual presentations (3) audience note-taking
