Essential Question:
Can I, as an individual, make an impact on the global environment?

Purpose
-To gain awareness and understanding of global ecological issues
-To inspire activism, personal involvement, and optimism in regards to global environmental issues

Social Science Standard 10.1: Students understand that problems facing the contemporary world are caused or influenced by geographic, ecological, historical, economic, political, social, scientific, technological, and other cultural factors.
10.1.1 Describing the relationship of geography and history to the political, economic, and social problems of a representative sample of nations from all regions of the world.
10.1.2 Describing possible solutions to or accommodations with unresolved global dilemmas.

Vocabulary: diplomat, import, export, negotiate, compromise, diversity, and consulate

Theme: Cultural Development and Human-Environment Interaction

1. Table Poster (Advertisement)
-colorful, creative, and informative
- name of your travel agency (make up one)

2. Entertainment Brochure/Guide - Cultural Focus (typed)
- informative (Don't cut and paste text from the Internet Write in your own words)
- tourist centered (What cultural things will your guest do?)
- list of things to bring on the trip
-accurate travel cost (flight and hotel/motels)
-estimated spending allowance (food, activities, etc.)
-how far is your countrys capitol from San Francisco? (in miles)

3. Flag - 8" x 10" (See Flags of the World Book)

4. Written Report
-identify the official language(s) and religion(s)
-report the population (based on what year?)
-list the major imports and exports
-briefly describe the cultural holidays and festivals (paragraph)
-provide an analysis of how ecology has helped shape this particular culture (paragraph)

5. Bibliography (type written/see handout for format)
-books, newspapers, magazines, travel agents, Internet addresses, encyclopedias, etc.

6. Other Requirements: Illustrations, graphic charts, and photos (at least one present in items #2 and #4)

7. Extra Credit: Books, postcards (make), stamps, posters, food, beverages, money, music, jewelry, recipes, passports (make), plane tickets (make), and more...
