Pre- Islamic practice and Quranic
age, common custom was to bury female infants alive as they were not seen same as boy child. Women were also frequently bought
and sold in the open market. Prophet Mohammed described, Women are the twin halves of men. Prophet Mohammad instructed Muslims
regarding women, I commend you to be kind to women. Quranic inspirations are equal status to men and women, equal rights to
men and women, Mother is seen as the highest in the family and society, right to acquire and inherit property, right to diverse,
right to education, widows and divorcee can remarry. Marrying more than one wife was legitimized when many of Muslim soldiers
were killed leaving behind widows and orphans, when they fought the battle of Uhud. Women were to cover their ornaments and
permissible to be shown to the husband only so neck had to be covered. Later women were to be covered According to the Hadith, "My Lord agreed with me ('Umar) in three things... (2) And as regards
the veiling of women, I said 'O Allah's Apostle! I wish you ordered your wives to cover themselves from the men because
good and bad ones talk to them.' So the verse of the veiling of the women was revealed" (Bukhari, v1, bk 8, sunnah 395).
During prophetic period women felt freedom and lived like real humen. Present system of Islamic system is totally different
as inscription in Qauan. Women are most vulnerable in this society. During prophetic period women felt freedom and lived like real humans. Present system is
contrary to what inscription in holy Qauan. Women are most vulnerable in this society. Vulnerable situation of women in this
world is due to economic dependence on others. Change of religious ideology is due to the interference of fundamentalism and
influence of old civilizations. Apparent example we could see in Afghanistan that women were forbidden to seek education,
employment, were not allowed to out and entertainment even listening a radio was forbidden. Is this not the influence of Babylonian or other old civilizations?

BOOKS:
Women under Islam : Gender, Justice and the Politics of Islamic Law:- How Islam treats women is one of the most hotly contested questions of our times. Islamic law is often misrepresented
as a single monolithic concept, rather than a collection of different interpretations and practices. To move the debate on
Islamic law and gender forward, it is necessary to establish how Islamic law actually operates. In this groundbreaking work,
Chris Jones-Pauly explores what conditions sustain the most liberal interpretation of Islamic law on gender issues. She examines
the different interpretations, histories and practices of Islamic law in different countries. She finds that the political
independence of judicial institutions is a far more important factor than the relative conservativism of the society. This
wide-ranging book will provide new insights not only for those studying law and gender, but for anyone with an interest in
Islamic societies
