July 17th...
Well today was quite a long day at Cheo. We left home at around 6:30am as Michael had to be in Ottawa for 9:30 am for dental surgery. He had to get 3 fillings, 2 back permanent molars sealed, and what we thought was 2 baby teeth pulled. But instead they pulled 4 baby teeth in the front as the roots were gone anyway and it would be a short time till they fell out anyway. They figured that they might as well come out when counts were good!
He woke up feeling great and surprised that 4 teeth were out. His counts were
wbc 2.55, hgb 124, neutrophils 1.04, and platlets 162. All pretty good. He did have a bit of a nose bleed as they had a tube down it for the surgery but after awhile it stopped. He was given a general anesthetic and also some morphine for pain. His oncology doctor gave him some amoxicillian to combat infection and then we were on our way. We got 30 min away and he started to get sick so back we went. We ended up staying there until 6pm as he spiked a fever of 37.7 Celsius under his arm. They gave him a Tylenol 1 and he seemed fine. When we left at 6 he was not as hyper... but okay. We got the same distance away and he got sick again.... but we continued home and he was fine. He had a low grade fever all night and then was fine in the morning. The doctors figure it was a reaction to the surgery.
Other than that things are still going great. We still live with the fear every day that his cancer will return but we have to think positive. A little friend of his is losing his battle to neuroblastoma and this has been discussed with him and the girls and we have come to terms with it as we know that he will no longer be in pain. We made it clear to Michael that it is a different cancer.
We are onto our family doctor next week and then onto Cheo when he gets a lumbar puncture on August 1st. Then on August 4th we are off to Camp Trillium again for another glorious week of fun!!! As long as we have good counts.
