Feb 5th...
Well Michael came through his last lp with flying colours. He also doesn't seem to have any side effects from the Vincristine either. He still has his hair and he has also finally gained weight. He now weights 48 lbs... and of course he is taller and we will see what that is next week when we go down to Cheo next week.
The week that he was on prednisone was just like any normal week for him. No moodiness which was great. He was a very happy and quite hyper. It seems that prednisone makes him very hyper but we can handle that if there are not mood swings.
We kept him out of school for 2 weeks during his prednisone as we didn't know what mood we would get and he was in the middle of changing teachers as his regular teacher is on maternity leave... congrats to her as she had a baby girl !! So we didn't think that being on this drug was fair to him or the new teacher with the changes that they would have to go through so we had a tutor come in to work with him and he just seemed to thrive on that.
Michael now insists on going for his bloodwork by himself and also watches all of his chemo. He needs to see our Dr. put the medicine in the needle and likes to watch him do that. Not a peep out of him. It is just amazing as it was not that long ago we had to hold him down for treatment. He is getting so excited with each and every treatment as soon it will be over. He cannot wait until his end of treatment party and he is inviting everyone he sees...
He is very confident with himself when we go for treatments and usually has good control over his fears. When we are at cheo he is a little different because we have to wait so long for treatment. At our dr. office he is done in 15 mins., at cheo he is there for at least 4 hours and the drive is long too ( 2 hours each way). This makes for an 8 hour day.
We had treatment today at our dr. office and counts were pretty good but his cold is back again and his white cells and neutrophyls are down a little but then again this could be because he is only 2 weeks off of prednisone and this does happen then. Or it could be this nasty cold that keeps coming back.. He is back to coughing today and has a low grade fever. He didn't want to go back to school today and didn't want to eat lunch but opted to go to bed for a nap instead. He slept for an hour and is coughing quite a bit. But he is drinking and eating a bit and that is good. Hopefully he will finally be able to shake this cold.
He now has 22 weeks of treatment to go... it is amazing how fast the time has gone by.
We are so proud of how brave he is....
