Meeting a Sweedes Man of Warr, whose name
and Captains as under, with nine Merchant men under his Convoy, some bound for London, as
they say, and some for France their lading I have not time to examine, because I heard
sev:ll Gunnes fir'd to t.(?) No:ward and fearing their may be may be an attempt
upon any of our Tradeing Shipps by the Enemy. I have sent in the Worcester, who is a
disabled Ship, (as I will as soon as possible give you an account how) I have ordered the
Sorlings along with him, that they may be the better able to take cares of the Merch.t
Shipps alsoe: this Sweeds Man of Warr refuseing to Strike, occasion'd a very sharp
dispute, between sev.ll of the Shipps and him; on both sides considerable
damages, as I will hereafter give you a particular account. I hope Captain Butler will
give you the best account he can: Wee tooke those Ships by their Number, to have been the
Dunkirk Squadron. I am now plying to Windwards with the Ships in the Margin, in hopes to
give an account of the occasion of the Gunnes wee heard to windward, and therefore must
conclude etc (?)
