Yoda Singh peered at me inquiringly, "OK, where were we?"
I piped up, "Well, my smarty-pants
sis had just interrupted us. Finally when she left, you were going to tell us about how to store naam inside us, so we can
use it ... like stored sunlight can be used to do all sorts of things."
Yoda Singh nodded, "Ahhhh, my
boy," then more looking closely, he added,
"or whatever you are - you can never tell these days, hee hee".
“Hee hee, very funny.” I
quipped, squaring my shoulders and standing up straighter.
He continued, "Did you ever
burn paper with a magnifying glass?"
No, I thought, but I did manage to set fire to my sleeping neighbor's underwear. "No," I said with seriousity (new english
word, hey W is the president, anything goes).
"Well, you use the magnifying glass to use the sunlight all around to focus on a tiny little spot on a paper, and
eventually the paper starts smoking and then burning." I
remembered my neighbor's face when the burning had started - ohhhh what a beauty ... I had been grounded for 13 consecutive
lifetimes, but that's another article. Yoda Singh, admonished knowingly, "The key to all this is F..O..C..U..S".
It suddenly hit me and I blurted out, "So Naam is everywhere. But when using our mind (as the magnifying
glass), we focus it inside, it sets us smokin' and then eventually
burns the heck out of us!!!!"
Yoda Singh replied,
"Very Good, but no prashad! What we really want to burn is not ourselves but our false sense of self. That is the ego."
I asked,
"Ego, isn't that an East European car?"
"No dummy, that's Yugo!", Yes you guessed it, it was my smarter-than-thou-by-two-hundreds-years sister!!!!!
“Hey where did you come from? I thought you had class,” I protested.
“Thank you, I do have class little brother,” she said smiling. “But anyhow you were thinking of last month. This month I am a University graduate with a double degree,
working in Research.” Then her voice softened a little and got me all melty feeling when she added, “Don’t bother getting so riled up. Dum can mean different things
depending on the stress it’s spoken with, like breath, life, a moment, an instant, strength or even wealth. These are
all things that are components of naam.”
“So what you are telling me is - breath is life and it takes only a moment of focus on naam to burn up ego and
get instant strength and wealth. Is that right sis?”
She patted my face fondly and teased, “I suppose you could say it that way my little dum dummy, and yes it gives you incredible strength and
incomparable wealth.”
I don’t know why but I suddenly felt like hugging her and squeezed her hand. “Well I’m still not clear on this ego thing. If it isn’t a car
then what is it?”
“It’s what gets in the way of love and what causes separation.” Yoda answered.
I looked at Yoda kinda of sideways sizing him up with this new information. Up until now I thought
he was an outstanding warrior with a slashing sword and now here he was sounding like some kind of lover. I felt kind of like
giggling ‘go Yoda’… but I held my tongue for once, wanting to hear about more of this love stuff.
Instead I prompted, “Do
ya mean like when we get mad and argue over stoopid stuff?”
“Love like sunlight is ever present in a rainbow of colours and spectrums,” he answered.
I shoulda known better than to ask any more questions cuz it got my sister going again.
“The colours of our sky result from the
scattering of sunlight by the gas molecules and dust particles in our atmosphere. “Sunlight” consists of light
waves of varying wavelengths, each of which is perceived as a different colour. The shortest light waves appear to be blue
and the longest red. The blue light waves are easily scattered by tiny particles of matter in our atmosphere, but the red
light waves travel undisturbed unless they are struck somehow by larger particles”. Not content with that, she added, “When our sky is clear, the waves of blue light are
scattered much more than those of any other colour we can see. As a result, our sky appears blue. When our sky is full of
compact clouds or thick smoke, light waves of all colours are scattered, causing our sky to seem grey. During sunrise or sunset,
sunlight must travel through a denser layer of atmosphere than when our sun is over head. The waves of red light travel farther
through this layer than do those of other colours causing our sun and our sky near the horizon to appear red.”
“I get it,” I ventured.
Eego is the clouds n
smoke n stuff getting in the way of the lovelight and it makes us all moody so we end up seeing red or feeling blue or seeing
our whole world turn shades of grey.” Hey
I feel like I’m writing one of those soppy love songs ya hear when you make a phone call and get put on hold.
“That’s right, without the cloud of ego we can actually enjoy in each other the essence found and enjoy
the colours of the sky that appear before us rather than pushing our own perspective onto others...in a matter than is somewhat
more persuasive than called for in sharing.”
“Uh sure sis, but what about night, when the sky is black?”
Yoda mused, “When you
look into the night sky you see tiny points of light from billions of suns. Focus is what makes just one of those appear magnified
brilliant and blinding as all of them combined in to ONE. When one is drenched in this jeweled dust and coloured by this lovelight,
it is then that separation is ended and one is blended in love with beloved ONE. Focused
into a single beam of light, sach a ray is the khanda of naAM. F.O.C.U.S. = Feature Of Combining Unilateral Strengths”.
“WoW,” my
sister sounded stunned, she gazed at Yoda in amazement. She looked at me and asked “Wah! Now that is RICH,
little brother do ya think there is a special sakhee kind of love that nothing else but waheguru can compare
to?"
This is new, my sister asking instead of telling, so of course I answered confidently “Oh yes.... I'm banking on it. But,” I couldn’t help asking, “what is a sakhee? Yoda?” I had a lot to think about so I didn’t mind so much running out of space. Still I was looking forward
to picking Yodas brain again and well I got to admit even my Wha-ky know-it-all-sister seems to be onto something, or maybe
she’s just on something…hmm… I gotta check out those M n M’s. “waheguru waheguru waheguru” I found my self humming under my breath, well what ever it was it was catching…
