What's Your Number?

"What's Your Number?"
song by Cypress Hill (feat. Tim Armstrong)

story by Dom. Jade

Let's go

[B-Real]
I met her at a club, her friend liked me but she didn't
She noticed a lot of girls giving up their phone digits
She didn't wanna be one of those hoes
In clothes exploiting her body from head to toes
She had glossy lips she was swaying her hips
On the dance floor and every nigga's flashing the grip
Trying to impress her in vain she gave no play
Niggaz hit her up for numbers and she said no way
I thought to myself let it go and roll on, B
But like Smokey said she really had a hold on me
I couldn't stop staring I started to fantasize with her
Voices in my head said she's tantalizing ya
Even if I moved to the other side of the party
I had pictures in my head of her moving that body
I was beside myself with hunger pain
So I slowly walked over and I asked her name

[Chorus: repeat 2X]
What's your name, what's your number?
I'd like to get to know you
Can we have a conversation?
The night is young, girl give me a chance!

[B-Real]
She gave a smile but I got no answer though
I took a while before she gave a chance she's acting cold
I offered her a drink she turned me down flat
She said if you want my name you gotta do better than that
I said OK, now your shit don't stink
I'ma walk away only tried to buy you a drink
As I began to walk away she said I'm sorry for real
But every guy in the club tried slipping me pills
I don't trust guys each and every one will lie to you
I said I understand but it's not what I try to do
I wasn't even gonna come to your table
But if I didn't I knew that I'd regret it later
I go after what I want but I got class
For me no need to slip a pill if I want ass
She gave me a funny look I couldn't tell what it meant
She let her guard down and on our conversation went

[Chorus]

[B-Real]
She said I want a man with a plan and ambition
Not an immature nigga on a "pussy-hit mission"
I'm too good for that I have so much to offer
Got a good job working at my mom and dad's law firm
You got goals, that's what she asked
Yeah I wanna fill my home with platinum plaques
It takes hard work but you know it's coming after
She said 'oh my God you must be a famous rapper!'
I do all right but I'm never satisfied
I'm told when you still love what you do it never gets old
I strive for more but that's enough about me
Why don't we skip out the club and take a walk on the street
We slipped out of the club with no worries
Seems she wanted to get out in a hurry
We hung all night till we lost our friends
Till they caught us bangin in the back of a Benz

[Chorus - 2X]

"Remind me why I came to the club with you," Scott said to Kevin. "It's your birthday, man. We're celebrating." "No, man. You're celebrating. I'm not even supposed to be drinking." "I'll keep you out of trouble." "Or be in it with me." He scanned the club. His attention was drawn to woman dancing with her friends. "Hey, Kev, have you seen her in here before?" "Which one?" "The one in the jeans with the tatoo." Kevin laughed. "Give up now, man. She won't even tell me her name, she's so stuck up." He stared at her. "She won't be an easy one to forget."

As he walked around the club, his thoughts were stuck on the way she moved. He imagined her swaying against his body. He looked at the dance floor, but didn't see her. He looked around for her, and saw her sitting with her friends. 'Just because she won't talk to Kevin, doesn't mean she won't talk to me,' he said to himself. He started toward her table. Before he got there, another guy went over to her. He couldn't hear the conversation, but he saw her put her hand up in his face. Then, the guy walked away.

When he made it to the table, he said, "excuse me, ladies." He looked around the table at all of them. One of them was giving him the once over, then winked at him. He smiled at her, to be nice. He turned to the woman that he had a hold on him. "What's your name, beautiful?" She ignored him. He kneeled beside her. "Come on. Don't be like that." She didn't even look at him. "Can I get you a drink?" "No. If you want my name, you have to do better than that."

He stood up. "Alright. I only tried to buy you a drink. I guess my buddy was right. You are stuck up." As he turned to walk away she said, "I'm sorry, really. It's nothing personal." He turned around, to look at her again. Her friends were slowly leaving for the dance floor. He took a seat next to her. She gave him a small smile. "Too many guys have tried slipping pills in my drinks." "I'll let you search me. I don't have any drugs on me." She laughed. "I'll take your word. My friends call me Jo." "My name is Scott." He took her hand, and kissed it. "I go after what I want, but I don't need drugs to get a woman." "That's admirable, but I don't go out for one-night-stands, either. I'm looking for something more permanent." "I don't either. I usually don't go out at all. It's my birthday, so my buddy drug me out tonight."

She gave him a look, as if trying to figure him out. "If you don't believe me, you can check my license." "Huh?" "For my birth date." "Yeah. Let me see." He took his wallet out of his back pocket, slid the card out, and handed it to her. She looked it over. She covered her mouth as she began to giggle. "You're..." "Don't say it, please. I know how young I am," he said with a smile. She handed the card back to him. "Alright. So you're telling the truth about your birthday, and your name." "And at this age, I'm not looking to be a one-hit-wonder. These other guys may lie to you to get you in bed, but I won't." "You're deffinately different."

"Do you want to take a walk?" She thought for a moment. "Sure." As they got up, her friend that was checking him out came up to them. "Where are you going?" "We're going for a walk." "Jo..." "Don't worry about me. I'll be fine." "Alright." They headed to the door, but were stopped by Kevin. "Where are you going, man? Are you calling it a night?" "Yeah, Kev. I'll see you later." He watched as they went to the door. That's when Kev noticed the woman with him. "No way..." Kevin bumped into Jo's friend as he went to follow them. "Excuse me. I was trying to catch my friend." She looked up at him. "Me, too." "The blonde with the tatoo?" "Yeah." "Come on."

As Scott and Jo walked out of the club, it started raining. "Do you want to go back in?" he asked. "I have a better idea. Follow me." They went to the parking lot, and found her car. "A Mercedes?" "I work for my parents' law firm. It pays well." She unlocked the doors, and they climbed in the back. Once the door was closed, she asked, "what do you do?" "I'm a wrestler." "Are you serious?" "Yeah." "Are you any good?" "I've held plenty of titles, so I think so." "Wow."

While Jo and Scott continued to talk, Kevin and Jo's friend continued looking for them. "Where the hell could they have gone?" Kevin said. "Knowing Jo, she wouldn't want to be in the rain long." "What is your name?" "Shelly." "I'm Kevin." He sighed as he looked around. "There's a coffee shop down there on the corner. Do you think they could have gone there?" "It's possible." They walked to the coffee shop, and looked through the window, but didn't see them. "Damn it! I bet they got a cab." "No way. Jo drove her car here. She wouldn't leave it." "Do you know where she parked?" "No. I didn't come with her. We agreed to meet here." "Well, let's see if we can find it."

Back in the car, Jo had let her gaurd completely down, and leaned over to kiss Scott. As the kiss became more heated, he put his arms around her, and pulled her body against his. "Are you sure you want to do this?" he asked when the kiss ended. "Why?" "Once I get started, it's hard to stop me." "I don't mind." This time, as he kissed her, he laid her back on the seat. The car rocked as he tried to get comfortable. A knock on the window interrupted them.

"Jo, are you in there?" She sighed. "Go away, Shelly." "I just want to know that you're ok." "Scott, are you in there?" He groaned. Jo rolled down the window. They both looked up and out the window at their friends. "We are just fine. Can you two give us a little privacy?" "Are you drunk, Jo? This isn't like you." "I haven't had a thing to drink." As Scott leaned his head down to kiss her neck, she rolled the window back up. "Go away, Shelly." "Take a hike, Kev." "But..." Kevin grabbed Shelly's shoulders. "They'll be fine. Let's leave them alone."

Once they walked away, Scott said, "you know, it's not very comfortable back here." "You're too big," she giggled. "Why don't we go to my place?" "There's a switch; a guy wanting to go to his place." He smiled at her. "That way, if you don't hear from me after tonight, you can come knock on my door." She smiled up at him. "You're no ordinary man, Scott. You're so much better." She kissed him, before letting him get out of the car. She climbed into the passenger seat, and let him drive to his house.

*****************************

In the morning, Scott awoke to the sound of his phone ringing. He looked at the clock, before answering the phone. "This had better be good." "Scott! Hey, man, is Jo there with you?" He looked down at the naked form curled up against him. "Why?" "Shelly called Jo's house a minute ago, and she didn't answer. She's getting worried." "She's here. We're trying to sleep. Goodbye, Kev."

As Scott hung up the phone, Jo yawned. "Somebody looking for me?" "You're friend is over at Kevin's. She was worried when she didn't get an answer at your house." "Mmm... I like where I'm at a lot better than that empty house." He wrapped her in his arms, and kissed her neck. "Then go back to sleep. You won't have to go home tonight, if you don't want to." "You were serious about not wanting to be a one-hit-man, weren't you?" "Baby, I'll hit that as long as you let me."

The next morning, when Scott woke up, Jo was gone. As he walked into the kitchen, he found a note on the table.

Dear Scott,

Sorry I ran out on you. I had to go home at some point. If you don't call me within 3 days, I'll be at your door.

love,

Jo

At the bottom, she had written her phone number. He smiled to himself as he walked over to the phone. He dialed in her number. It rang four times before the answering machine picked up. After the beep, he said, "is this soon enough?"
