Reasons to be Cheerful
David Duchovny's appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien (refer below) will not be until June 7 in the US. Meanwhile DD's appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno wasn't on the Comedy Channel (Foxtel/Austar) today - it should be on Monday at 10pm.

There's a bit on Jurassic Park III (starring Tèa Leoni) in NW, as a coming attraction.

Today's Courier Mail has a House of Mirth review accompanied by a nice large colour photo of Gillian Anderson as Lily Bart in a scene from the movie. You can read the transcript on my Australian Media page for May.

David Duchovny Australia Bound
In yesterday's Melbourne Herald-Sun there's a short article about David Duchovny coming to Australia in July for the Evolution premiere. There's a competition where you need to think of a question to ask him and send it in. The 10 best questions will be asked and the best one will win 2 tickets to the Sydney premiere (DD will be there) and you will go to the Evolution after party. How cool is that?

There's also 100 tickets to the Melbourne premiere for the first 100 questions received. So get writing!

Send your questions to....

HIT,
PO Box 14999,
Melbourne City MC, VIC 8001

or e-mail hit@heraldsun.com.au

or fax 03 9292 1177
BTW, if you're going to post it, it also says "on postcards only, please".

Entries close at noon, May 31.

ThanX Fiona on ausxfnews.

Lucy then provided me with the transcript:
Dave Down Under

David Duchovny has left The X-Files far, far behind him and embarked on a movie career. Following the success of his romantic comedy Return to Me, Duchovny has turned his hand to the sci-fi spoof Evolution, which opens on July 12.

The film, which is described as a cross between Ghostbusters and Men in Black, is directed by Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters) and co-stars Julianne Moore (Hannibal).

Duchovny will head to Australia for the local premiere, to be held in Sydney on June 14.

Hit is offering one lucky reader and a friend the chance to attend the premiere, and the exclusive Evolution after party.

Simply send Hit a question you'd like to ask Duchovny. Hit will choose 10 questions, and the author of the best question will win the main prize.

Duchovny's answers will be published in HIT.

There are also 100 tickets to a Melbourne preview of the film. They will go to the first 100 questions received by Hit.

There is a limit of one question per person.

[Entry details as above]

The main winner will be notified by phone on June 1. Melbourne Premiere winners will be notified by mail.
Meanwhile Clare phoned the Evolution publicist at Columbia Tristar pictures who are distributing the movie in Australia and they confirmed that David Duchovny is definitely coming to Australia. He will be here from June 11. However, he is only coming to Sydney and there are no public appearances. However, he will be attending the Evolution premiere which will be on Thursday June 14 at the George Street cinemas.

Today's Daily Telegraph also had the news that DD was coming to Australia and they said mid-June.

NW magazine also has an article on Evolution as a coming attraction.

The Hoyts website now lists the Evolution release date as July 12, however the Columbia Tristar website still has it as June 28.

David Duchovny TV Appearances
As well as the Leno and Letterman appearances mentioned below, David Duchovny will also be talking-up Evolution on the NBC Today show on June 4. In Australia that screens in some locations - not where I live unfortunately - on channel 7. That should be on after midnight that day in Australia.

He will also be on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on June 6 (US time). Does anybody know the Australian date for that one? It aired June 7.

Elise correctly points out that the Letterman Aussie date probably won't be the day after the US airing as channel 9 has fallen behind because they stopped screening the show to avoid Survivor II spoilers.

ThanX to Maria and Lucy.

Exit Stage Left?
This was posted by Gem to ausxfnews. The article was from the Sunday Telegraph:
"Star exits X-Files"

X-Files star David Duchovny has finally quit the long-running sci-fi series.

It was confirmed yesterday that the show will return for a ninth series after heated last-minute negotiations between the Fox network and show creator Chris Carter resulted in a sealed deal.

Duchovny, who plays Agent Fox Mulder and has appeared in only a handful of episodes in the current season, is still expected to make an occasional cameo appearance.

His co-star, Gillian Anderson, who plays Agent Dana Scully, signed a deal last July locking her into The X-Fiels for at least one more season.

On The Tiles
Stars put their X-tiles up for charity
gillian anderson tileDavid Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have given their own spooky take on design. The stars of the X-Files have joined other Hollywood names who have taken up their paintbrushes to raise money for a Multiple Sclerosis Charity.

Ceramic tiles painted and signed by more than 50 celebrities will go for auction in Los Angeles tomorrow as part of the "Rock N Soul To Erase MS" charity event, hosted by Nancy Davis. The auction of 600 items is expected to raise more than £2 million for the Nancy Davis Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

Television’s investigators of the bizarre displayed a fair degree of originality in their tile artwork. Duchovny painted a spooky blue face, while Anderson also opted for blue, painting a small blue man standing on his own in the bottom left-hand corner of her tile.

David Duchovny to Visit Australia?
Rowena on ausxfnews posted a link to the columbiatristarfilms.com.au website, where the following article was written:
From the director of Ghostbusters comes a hilarious new comedy of meteoric proportions, Evolution. Due to invade cinemas locally on June 28th, the film follows the chaos that ensues when a meteor hits the Earth carrying alien life forms. As the alien invasion takes over, it’s up to the stars of the film; David Duchovny, Julianne Moore and Sean William Scott to stand between them and world domination….which could be bad news for Earth!

David Duchovny, who is best known for his starring role as Fox Mulder in the series The X Files, will be visiting our shores in mid June.
That June 28 release date is a week earlier than the previously announced date.

Evolution Competition
There is an Evolution competition on the columbiatristarfilms.com.au website.
Ivan Reitman, who made "ghostbusting" a household word with his smash hit comedies "Ghostbusters" and "Ghostbusters II," now takes on the theory of "Evolution."

Chaos breaks out when a meteor crashes on Earth, bearing one-celled organisms. The problem is that they begin evolving at a pace much faster than what happened on our world. Changes that took billions of years happen in one month. As the film starts, they're kept within the confines of a cave, but what's going to happen when they get out? Four of the people investigating the cave are a community college professor (David Duchovny), his geologist buddy (Orlando Jones) and a government scientist (Julianne Moore).

If you would like to evolve by going along to see this new hilarious comedy and win an evolutionary prize pack, answer the following question:
What television series does David Duchovny currently star in?

Competition closes June 29, 2001
You can also download an Evolution screensaver.

There is also a Joe Dirt Competition. Brian Thompson (The Bounty Hunter) is in that movie.

The House Of Mirth
According to columbiatristarfilms.com.au, the release date for Gillian Anderson's The House Of Mirth has been pushed back a week to June 21. The site has an interview with Gillian Anderson.

Rod Hardy
In the latest issue of Who Weekly (out yesterday) there's a short story about Australian Rod Hardy, who directed three season 8 episodes of The X-Files. Hardy said it was hard work and also mentioned that he is most famous for directing the Neighbours episode where Kylie and Jason got married.

David Duchovny is also mentioned in a list of "intelligent" actors, those who have university or college degrees. There's also a lengthy review of All The Pretty Horses. It just gets a C+.

This Is Not Happening
There were reviews of All The Pretty Horses in Thursday's Courier Mail and Gold Coast Bulletin . The Herald Sun also had a review of the movie that was identical word-for-word to the Time Off review.

This Is Not Happening was reviewed in Thursday's Herald Sun:
Scully (Gillian Anderson) and her partner Doggett (Robert Patrick) are getting closer to the truth behind the disappearance of Mulder. The discovery of abductees, seized at the same time as Mulder, has Scully fearing the worst. Age is certainly wearying this long-running series, but Patrick has brought the show added bite as a replacement for David Duchovny.
It was accompanied by a photo of Robert Patrick.
ThanX Lucy.

Dippers And Red Herrings
Tonight's episode of The X-Files, the first of a three-part mythology arc, is titled "This Is Not Happening". There's been no confirmation that those three episodes will be released on video in Australia this month as previously rumoured.

There's a review of tonight's episode in today's The Australian newspaper (in the Media liftout) where the writer says it's an episode all dippers (people who watch The X-Files only occassionally) should watch but unlike the claims that it reveals all, there will probably be more than the usual plate of red herrings served up.

Today I flicked through this week's NW magazine and saw a review of The X-Files Season 2 DVD release (it gets 5 stars for the show and 4 stars for the disc) plus a review of All The Pretty Horses (Robert Patrick) which gets 3 stars.

When I got home Lucy had provided the transcript:
The X-Files was starting to hit its stride in this second year and this collection features episodes including Scully's abduction and the arrival of Agent Krycek. While there isn't a huge amount of extras (no commentaries) the deleted scenes and interviews you get are satisfying enough - the actor who plays Cigarette Smoking Man for instance - admitting the show got him hooked on fags ... Also many of the episodes have been unavailable to buy previously.

Losing Millions
The Brisbane Sunday Mail TV Scene liftout had a small X-Files Movie photo of David Duchovny with the following:
Out of sight out of mind for David Duchovny.

It seems David's disappearance from The X-Files is not hurting the show after all. He made his return this month in the US for a six episode stint and ratings dived. The cult thriller had been pulling about 16 million viewers with Gillian Anderson and new guy Robert Patrick. Duchovny's first show back grabbed only 12 million.

'X FILES' BREAK DOESN'T EASE ACTING LOAD FOR DUCHOVNY
Bob Strauss L.A. Daily News

When David Duchovny cut his deal to appear in a limited number of this season's "The X Files" episodes, he figured he'd have more time to relax. Not the case, though, once he signed on to "Evolution," "Ghostbusters" director Ivan Reitman's alien invasion farce.

"It didn't turn out to be leisurely at all," said Duchovny, who traded Fox Mulder's competence for a goofy, all-thumbs professor role in the special-effects comedy. "I started this movie in October and finished it the day before going back to shoot my last six "X Files" episodes." Despite the punishing schedule and the desire he's had for years to get out of the televison-series grind, Duchovny admits that he has mixed feelings about his truncated, final "X" year.

"I guess I hadn't realized the sacrifice I would make, creatively, being away from the show," the actor admits. "I missed it in the sense that you'd miss anything you had so much interest and time invested in. But I didn't miss it in the sense that I'd want to continue." Duchovny remains open to possible "The X Files" feature films in the future.

Of course, if "Evolution" starts a franchise, double big-screen alien-fighting duty could turn into a greater burden than ever before.

Evolution and Other Movie News
The new David Duchovny movie Evolution is among the top 10 most anticipated movies of the US summer according to a story in the May 7 issue of Newsweek (US magazine) and this from their website www.msnbc.com:
EVOLUTION
Another “X-File” for David Duchovny? Nope. This one’s a sci-fi comedy from Ivan Reitman (“Ghostbusters”), starring Duchovny and Orlando Jones as professors who meet some way-out-of-towners. The aliens start as amoebas. In two weeks they’re eight feet tall and, uh, oddly equipped. “We were taken with their genitalia,” Duchovny says. “It looked hermaphroditic. So [co-star] Julianne [Moore] came up with the wonderful nomenclature of ‘testina’.”

Site Update
I've updated pages for The Sixth Extinction and The Sixth Extinction: Amor Fati on my Season 7 episode guide.

I've been having trouble with Lycos/Tripod again and haven't been able to update for the last 2 days.
