It's just an anniversary,
It brings the cycle to a close.
So why am I cringing, crying?
Why am I standing, looking
up to the sky?
It's just another end of Summer day.
Another passing calendar date.
A day like any other
A day burned into my
brain.
Yesterday was so far away.
Today it seems even nearer.
The images keep coming back
They parade like a river
of blood.
It's just an anniversary.
It's just another day of days.
But one we all want to erase
One we want to revise,
rewrite but can't.
Too late, too late says my mind.
Too much, too much says my heart
Remembering back to a morning bright
Remembering
back to a day of fire and destruction.
Don't tell me it's just an anniversary.
Don't tell me the wounds will heal.
Ask the mothers of the missing
Ask
the widows of the dead.
It's now tomorrow, a brand new day.
A brand new year to start over.
And so it passes, like a highway
Over a
desert parched and dry.
