Under Hallowed Ground
4/9/03
Time has come between us
Another season changes
Clocks are moved ahead
A war has started.
So much to fill my mind
The days are full of plans
You no longer invade my dreams
You're neatly
packed away.
Our troops enter Baghdad
As the E train opens its doors
Destination WTC says the sign
We arrive
to a platform of boarded walls.
The eye mosaics follow me
Topside as I walk to my bank
It's all become so normal
The N/R underpass
takes me back.
There now are a hundred white tiles
Where once the mall's entry existed
Where once a thousand passed
Now
they are but ghosts.
US troops bombed Iraq cities
As I entered the 9 train
The magic carpet of steel
Rushing me through
the bedrock.
Now under Ground Zero
A light is streaming
From a station abandoned
Silent spirits on a dead platform.
Under this hallowed ground
I feel voices crying
Pleading for peace
Please, please or else we died
in vain.
