New Years Eve 2005

We decided to have a pool party this year because it was so hot (about 43 degrees).  The water was beautiful!  Josh went in his blow up seat and floated around trying to drink the water.  When he got bored of that we helped him to swim around while we held him.

At dinner time Josh likes to play a game where he claps his hands or puts his fists on the table or slaps the table and we have to copy him.  On New Years we had a table of 10 people with Josh at one end of the table and Riley at the other end and everybody was playing.  Josh thought it was fantastic to be in command of so many people and to be the centre of attention!

Josh’s 2nd Birthday 2006

Of course we had to have a train theme for Josh’s birthday this year!  His favourite movie over Christmas was Polar Express, he loved going for walks to meet the trains while I was on holidays and everyday he plays with his train toys and books.

I made train ticket invitations (idea borrowed from Polar Express), had train cookies and train cupcakes and of course a train birthday cake which looked a bit like Thomas, or maybe even Edward (because it had a number 2 on it).  The hit of the party was Josh’s Thomas the Tank Engine train set and table which Kel made (I helped put the stickers on it!).  It took a lot of time to make, and there was a late night / early morning rush to make sure it was finished in time – but it was worth it to see Josh’s face!  And he barely stopped playing with it all day.

This time last year we never would have guessed that we would be having a train themed party.  Last year we had an Elmo party, and his 18th month party was a Shrek party.  I thought it might have been a Toy Story party but he seems to have grown out of that stage now.  I will have to run a competition to see who can guess what his party theme will be next year!  Leave your answers in Josh’s guest book.

Christmas 2005

This Christmas was all about trucks!  And cars!  Josh woke up to see that Santa had left a whole heap of trucks around the fireplace because they wouldn’t all fit into the stocking.  Josh raced into the lounge room straight past the huge pile of wrapped presents and started playing with the trucks.  We had to talk him into opening the other presents, which were an Elmo doll and books and a car garage with slides for the cars to go up and down.

Josh made me a very special present this Christmas which was his very first masterpiece finger painting on the proper artists canvas.

Other Stuff

Yesterday Josh grabbed Kel and took him to the phone and said “Mum”.  So Josh called me at work.  It was a very nice surprise because usually Josh won’t talk on the phone at all.  He said “Hello mum” and then gibbered away for a while with every second or third word being “train”.  So I guessed that he had been watching his new Thomas DVD!  Then at the end he said “bye Mum”.  It was very sweet!

New words

Three, more, no more, bye train, bye Mum, chair, train track, OK, ouch, gone, train gone.

As you can see he has been doing lots more of the two word combinations.

I have also had very nice surprises when I get home from work, because waiting for me at the train station, sitting on the seat are my two boys!  (And one time it was the three boys when Eddie, our new dog, came).  Josh is very excited to see the train and he waves and says “bye train” as it drives away.  Then he says “train gone”.
