I was raised Catholic. However, since I began learning the Bible, (which, spirituality drew me into studying more) there were certain things that conflicted, and didn't seem right about their "all forgiving and loving God". It seemed to me that he was more jealous and judgmental. So, I researched other religions. I was around 17 or 18 at the time. I had gone through all of the Christian denominations, read some Buddhist text, looked into Judaism, and none of them quite fit my system of beliefs.
Then a friend gave me a copy of "The Spiral Dance" by Starhawk, and everything began to fall into place. So I read and began practicing what was in the book. Until I was stationed in North Carolina (in the military) where I met, at a flea market, the person who would become my teacher and friend.
She had a small coven of a few people, as well as a group (of different religions, not just Wicca) who met regularly to discuss Theologies. After my third degree initiation into the coven, a few of the other members and I broke off to begin our own coven, where I was asked to be High Priest. I remained High Priest for a year, until I was discharged from the military. I then returned home and acquired several students who lived in the area.
Then in 1998, I met my wife (a friend of a friend at the time) while doing a school report on Wicca. About a month later I was introduced to her teachers, Treehugger and Azrael. I have since been "adopted" into Sacred Hands, and have had a wonderful fulfilling experience in Wicca.
So, now I have been a practicing Eclectic Witch for over 10 years.
Incorporating a good (I think), and interesting mix of : Celtic (from my Scottish and Irish heritage), Greek (because it peaked my interest and shared my beliefs), Druidic (for their knowledge of Earth lore), Egyptian (my wife's influence), and general Wiccan (various concepts that I feel make me a better person) practices.
