ALTAR DEVOTION

Thanks belong to Silver Ravenwolf for this ritual found in her wonderful book, "To Stir A Magick Cauldron". I perform this particular ritual before doing any work. I find it energizes me, the altar and the Circle.

Supplies: Salt, Water, Stick Incense, Athame (or candle)
Timing: This rite can be performed anytime including before a ritual or as a daily devotion.

The Ritual

Ground and center, then enter the Goddess position (Feet spread shoulder width and hands raised as if in welcoming the moon) and visualize that you are gathering Divine energy into your arms. Then slowly push the energy into your heart chakra and end this procedure in the God position (hands folded over chest, legs together and head bowed.)

Now light the incense and put out the flames with a sharp clap of your hands, then hold your sending hand over the incense as you say:

"Oh creature of Air. I cleanse and consecrate you by the ancient energies of the East. I remove all negativity in this world and in the world of phantasm. Blessings of the Ancient Ones be upon you. So mote it be!"

Pass your sending hand over the incense three times sending energy into it then pickup the Athame (or light the candle) and say:

"Oh creature of Fire. I cleanse and consecrate you by the ancient energies of the South. I remove all negativity in this world and in the world of phantasm. Blessings of the Ancient Ones be upon you. So mote it be!"

Put Athame back (if used) and pass your sending hand over the Athame or candle three times sending energy into the object. Now pickup the bowl of water (spring water preferred) and say:

"Oh creature of Water. I cleanse and consecrate you by the ancient energies of the West. I remove all negativity from this world and in the world of phantasm. Blessings of the Ancient Ones be upon you. So mote it be!"

PLace water back on the altar and pass your sending hand over it three times sending energy into it. Now pick up the dish of salt and say:

"Oh creature of Earth. I cleanse and consecrate you by the ancient energies of the North. I remove all negativity from this world and in the world of phantasm. Blessings of the Ancient Ones be upon you. So mote it be!"

Pass your hand over the bowl of water, raise it in silent communion with Deity and set it in the center of the altar.

Now place 3 pinches of salt into the water and stir three times with your finger. Then take up the Athame (Use finger) and say:

"As the Athame ("Rod" if finger is used) is to the God so the Chalice is to the Goddess.

Now lower the Athame's point or your finger tip into the bowl and say:

"And together they are one!"

Replace these things at their rightful place on the Altar. Now visualize the altar becoming a large cauldron. Pass your hand over the cauldron as if mixing. See yourself mixing the elements together into a rainbow colored mass of energy. Do this five times deosil then on the lower right corner of the altar tap 5 times sharply (1 tap for each element + spirit) with the pommel of your Athame, fist, wand, etc... This seals the power.

Next, ground and center and then perform the God and Goddess position in salute to Deity.
