This ritual is an original...it was created for a couple of young covenors who wanted a special ceremony to celebrate their engagement! Since then it has become a favorite within our coven.....Az The Promising Or Betrothal Preparation: The Circle is marked out with flower, petals and the altar is decorated with them. In the west (representing water the element of love) is the cauldron, filled with water and flower blossoms. The Altar Devotions are done before the casting of the Circle. Supplies: Along with the usual supplies, rings or some other symbol of the promise should be on the altar if the betrothal couple desire it. The Ritual: Casting the Circle is conducted normally except that (A) the betrothal couple await outside of the gate and (B) the "Charge" is not yet given. High Priest & High Priestess: Bring the betrothal couple into the Circle with a kiss after the invocation of the God.High Priest: Leads the couple to the Altar while the High Priestess seals the Circle with the sword, athame, or wand, and then returns to the altar where the sword is replaced. (Now Go To "Drawing Down The Moon")
(After Drawing down the moon)
(continue with...)
High Priestess: Turns to the coven and says...Who enters this Circle with a promise on his lips and in his heart? What is thy name O' man?Betrothal Male: I (State name) enter this Circle with a promise on my lips and in my heart.High Priest: Turns to the coven and says...Who enters this Circle with a promise on her lips and in her heart? In forgotten years, before the Burning Times the Promise or Betrothal carried great weight and importance. This was a serious and solemn commitment! Know ye now, that within this sacred Circle the Promise still carries the same importance. Here your word is given not just to each other, but to the God and Goddess. With this in mind I ask you both...Do you wish to continue?Betrothal Couple: Answers in unison...We do Priestess!High Priest: Says...Though this is a solemn occasion it is also a time for joy, for the Promise is a promise of many glorious times. The Promise is a vow to one day join as one; To one day share all that this life has to give, both the joys as well as sorrows. With this in mind I ask you both...Do you wish to continue?Betrothal Couple: Answers in unison...We do Priest!High Priest & High Priestess: Turn back to the altar, arms raised in invocation.High Priest: Says...Great Aphrodite! Sweet Goddess of Love! Here stand two who would pledge their to troth to one another in your holy presence.High Priestess: Says...Great Eros! God of passion and romance! Here stand two who would pledge their to troth to one another in your holy presence. Turns back to the coven and says...Now let us all bear witness to (Betrothal male) and (Betrothal Female)'s promise.(NOTE) This is the time that the betrothal couple should make their pledge to each other. These pledges should be prepared by the couple themselves.High Priestess: (If rings are used...)Takes up the Females ring and after blessing it, hands it to the Betrothal Male and says...(Betrothal males name) take thy beloveds hand in to your own and repeat after me...(Betrothal Females name), accept this ring as a symbol of my love and my promise to you.Betrothal Male: Now places the ring on the Betrothal Females finger.High Priest: (If rings are used...)Takes up the Males ring and after blessing it, hands it to the Betrothal Male and says...(Betrothal Females name) take thy beloveds hand in to your own and repeat after me...(Betrothal Males name), accept this ring as a symbol of my love and my promise to you.Betrothal Female: Now places the ring on the Betrothal Males finger.High Priest: Says...We have all heard and bear witness to these vows that (Betrothal Male) and (Betrothal Female) have made before the God and Goddess.High Priestess: Says...If these vows be true (Betrothal Male) and (Betrothal Female) then thou may seal them now with a kiss. The now betrothed couple kiss, and are embraced by the coven...
