Here will be some of the recipes for the items which serve as munchables in the ritual life and beyond. A few of these recipes are going to be a bit unusual in nature but they are easily applied to rituals or the time after rituals that I love so much when you just sit around and talk about the humorous aspects of the ritual. "What were you DOING over there while we were invoking the Goddess?" the answer, "Well, there was this bed of fire ants you see..." What can he say, Nightshade is so sweet to us all... especially the fire ants who reside in our yard! In my case, it was more like the time I picked the wand up off the altar during an outside ritual and a huge waterbug ran down it, across my hand and off into the night. I really don't like those bugs! I think my skitz and shake was fairly obvious to all present, except perhaps the couple who were there to be betrothed. Anyway, these are a few treats that may come in handy at your next gathering, while you discuss the foibles of the human condition and how not to stub a toe on the hidden roots of a tree when barefoot, in the middle of night-time ceremonies, while working by candles and torchlight. SUGARED ROSE PETALS Crow's Favorite Treat Source: So Many I Can't Count That High INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED: THE PETALS OF SEVERAL ROSES DIRECTIONS: Get several sheets of waxed paper ready. Then for each petal you are preparing, paint each side of the petal with egg white. Dust each side with a layer of extra finely ground sugar, and lay it on the waxed paper. Allow them to air-dry naturally. For those in humid climates, remember they will still be rather moist and bendable for several hours so you can make them in advance where as some climates I would suggest use them fairly soon after they are made. Once they begin to harden, the coating can chip off fairly easy.
CRESCENT CAKES Source: Cunningham INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED: 1 CUP OF FINELY GROUND ALMONDS DIRECTIONS: Mix together well, all the dry ingredients. Then add the extract, butter and yolk and knead it until it is well blended. Chill the dough for an hour or two, this makes it easier to work with. When the dough is chilled, preheat your oven to 325 degrees farenheit, and begin to pinch off pieces of dough about the size of walnuts and shape them into crescents. Bake them on greased cookie sheets until they are golden brown. The time varies drastically from oven to oven, so keep a close eye on the first bunch and then use that as your time guide. FAERIE CAKES Source: Telesco INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED: 1 CUP OF FLOUR DIRECTIONS: Mix together the dry ingredients in a bowl and set it aside. Then melt the butter and add it to the dry ingredients, add the cream slowly and blend until the mixture is smooth.let it stand at room temperature for an hour, before using a well greased cast iron pan or a waffle iron to cook both sides well, approximately 4 minutes per side. Garnish it with honey or powdered sugar. They are ready, but don't forget to put some outside for the fey !
MAIDEN CAKES Source:Telesco INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED: BASIC WHITE CAKE MIX DIRECTIONS: Make the cake mix as you normally would but add the chosen amounts of the seven specified items and bake according to the directions on the box for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
