Incense is, often, as much a part of the average cowan household now-a-days as it is the pagan households. In our home we use incense during rituals and as a mundane item as well. The only difference in the burning is the recipes used. I make the oil-based incenses for the coven members, both for spells and for the purely "scentual" experience of the incense. Friends can always tell when I have been making incense that day. I went one night to pick up a pizza from a place that a friend worked at, I had been there perhaps as long as two minutes when I heard a voice from the back by the ovens saying... "I smell incense..." then he yelled hello to me without even looking to see if I was actually in the store. He claims to have smelled the scent of my clothes (there are always spills it seems when working several hours with oils) over the scent of cooking pizzas. I doubted it, but can't explain it any other way either! As we prefer to use oil based incense these will be a majority of the recipes which I will make available. They last longer in the air and if you leave the sticks lying around unburned it also scents an area without the smoke as well. Incense oils can be used on cold light bulbs. Smear it on, let it dry, then turn it on, as it heats up naturally the bulb will smoke a bit and the scent fills the room. It can also be burned in oil burning lamps. If you intend on doing this, mix the essential oils in with the lamp oil or fuel. It will give a longer cleaner scent.
ALTAR INCENSE Source: Cunningham He suggests use as a general all purpose incense to purify the area around and including your altar.
FULL MOON RITUAL Source: Cunningham An incense which is very handy. ( For Goddess worshippers especially. ) This can be burned for Full moon rituals and also for any ritual in which you are specifically honoring the Goddess or any of her aspects ( those which concern motherhood are really perfect for this. )
