Hello, my name is Heather Treehugger. This is meant not only as an introduction to myself, but also to my way of life for those who know nothing about witches other than the bad press of the last few hundred years. I am a practicing witch. I was raised in the Church Of Christ tradition, my father progressed from Deacon to Elder to Preacher in that tradition. I attended the family church until I was eighteen and no longer residing in their home. However I always had trouble believing what my father and the other preachers tried to teach by rote. At an early age, around 12 years old as I recall, I began to question the "God" I had been taught to believe in. I could not reconcile what I was told with what I saw in the world. As I grew older less and less of what I had been taught made sense. The basic morals stood true for me, as I believe basic morals of any religion do. But the day to day dogma fell to ruin for me. From the time that I was allowed to choose my own books to read, all I read was what my father always referred to, and undoubtably always will, as "that nonsense". By that he was referring to a wide range of subjects, including but certainly not limited to astral travel, extra sensory perception, ghosts, clairvoyance, intelligent life on other planets, telekinesis, poltergeists, and reincarnation. To him these are at best: nonsense, at worst: "the devil's work" tempting my mind from "God's Good Work". (Yes he was what is commonly known as a "fire and brimstone" preacher.) He means well, and he truly believe what he speaks so I will never fault him for his beliefs...however...they are not mine. My beliefs are very different. I hold myself accountable for what I do. There is no blaming a source outside myself for the evil that I do. I blame me. I alone am responsible for my actions. I believe in the Wiccan Rede "An it harn none, do as thou wilt." This is my main point of reference for what I do in the world. I try to never cause harm, which sounds really simple over all, but I cannot willfully harm by action, I cannot harm by inaction or ommission, I cannot even accidentally harm without it having an effect upon my life...and as we are all human I do screw it up pretty well sometimes. But I do try to improve myself and the world around me with every opportunity. Putting out as much good as I can into the world is my way of trying to make up for all the harm I do. My life is to improve myself and that which surrounds me, this does not stop with just myself, but also my family, loved ones and even acquaintances. As we are all in this together, we have to help each other every chance we get to improve our lives individually and the world as a whole. I always strive to cause less harm this year than last, this month than last, eventually if I live forever I just might get the whole concept of "harm none" down pat. I, personally, practice an eclectic blend of different pagan beliefs and rituals. A bit of Wicca, some celtic magick, some Egyptian magick, a touch of druidism, a smidge of ancient Greek theology, a pinch of voodoo etc. I take the rituals that apply to me and make them work for the good of the world around me, my loved ones, myself, even my enemies. (I have experienced the fact that if you improve your enemies lives, they have less negative energy, nothing to be upset about and they leave you alone. It works like "MAGICK"...because it is.) I have used the time honored rituals of others, have had some created for me, and have created some for myself. When in doubt, ask another pagan. Click on the email icon below if you have any questions. or as the saying goes "Read More About It"... some authors whom I personally found unbelievably helpful and knowledgeable are: The beloved and belated Scott Cunningham, Stewart and Janet Farrar, Silver Ravenwolf, Doreen Valiente, Dion Fortune, Richard Vaughan, D.J. Conway, Ray Marlbrough, Marie Leveaux, Patricia Telesco, Elbee Wright, Draja Mickaharic, Patricia Monaghan...and many others too numerous to list, both internationally, nationally and locally. Azrael, Nightshade, Red Wolff, Lysander and others... you know who you are. Much Love to you all and Blessed be to you and yours.
